THELMA LEE KIRBY

Celebrating the Life of Thelma Lee Kirby

On Saturday, April 18, 2026, Thelma Lee Kirby received her heavenly rest on her birthday.

There is something deeply meaningful about leaving this world on the very day you entered it—a full circle. It is not just an ending, but a peaceful and purposeful transition, forever connecting her to the love she shared in this life.

A native of York County, Virginia, Thelma was a devoted member of Shiloh Baptist Church. She met and married the love of her life, Wayne Lester Kirby, and together they built a strong foundation rooted in faith, love, and family. From that union, they raised four children: Wanda, Wayne, Kenny, and Terry.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving brother, Calvin Lewis; her sister-in-law, Blanche Dula; and her brother-in-law, Gerald Kirby. She also leaves behind a cherished legacy of grandchildren: Keshia, Kenneth Jr., Dylan, Caylee, Cabria, Caden, and Tekai; and great-grandchildren: Akela, Alex, Kehlani, and Keenan. In addition, she leaves a host of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly, as well as a special bond with her bonus son, James Brown.

She was also blessed with two wonderful daughters-in-law, Cara Kirby and Rachel Kirby, and her son-in-law, Chris Voss.

Thelma was a loving mother and grandmother who found true joy in laughter, meaningful conversations, and being surrounded by family and friends. Her warmth, humor, and beautiful spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

She has found peace and will be remembered with love and fondness by all.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who has shown love, support, prayers, and kindness during this time. We are especially grateful to her church family and the many friends who have reached out to comfort us.

May God continue to bless our family as we move forward, holding tightly to the love and memories she leaves behind.

General Parker, III

General Parker III was born on July 19, 1949, in Windsor, North Carolina, to the late General Parker and Charlotte Etheridge. He spent his formative years in Lawrence, Massachusetts, where he received his education and later earned his barbering license from the Massachusetts School of Barbering.

General leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving wife Loyce; his children, Derrick, Desiree, Torri, Areem (LaTasha), Natasha, Todd, and Tisha; his brother, Ervin Parker (Louise); 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

A viewing will be held at Carter Funeral home on Saturday, April 18th 2026 @ 11:00. Service will begin at noon. Repast immediately following service at SafeHaven Empowerment Center. 429 Thorncliff Dr. Newport News, VA 23608

DEBORAH WILLIAMS

The earthly life of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister-in-law and friend, Deborah Williams ended on Wednesday March 18, 2026.
Deborah was the daughter of the late Ernest Adams and Bernice Holllinger, born on March 10, 1951, in Newark New Jersey. She was reared in a loving home. Deborah attended Catholic school in New Jersey and graduated. Deborah furthered her education and attended college for two years.
Deborah met her husband Robert, and they enjoyed life with each other for 40 years. During this time Deborah worked at Martin Medical Center as a cashier. Later in her life Debra was employed at Walmart and worked there until her health began to decline and she retired.
Deborah loved watching older tv shows like Bonanza, Big Valley and Walker Texas Ranger. Her favorite thing to do was spend time with her grandkids. Deborah helped raise her grandkids and took special time to teach them the fundamentals they would need to prepare them for school.
Deborah was a sweet person with a loving, gentle spirit. Deborah will always be remembered for her kindness, willingness to help and her smile.
Deborah leaves to cherish her precious memories, her husband Robert Williams Sr. of the home.

KIMBERLY “JOY” TURNER

Kimberly “Joy” Bondes Turner transitioned into eternity on Thursday, February 19, 2026. Born on August 29, 1980 in Newport News, Virginia, she was the eldest daughter of Reverend Kim William and Luetishia Singleton Bondes. Lovingly known as “Joy”, Kimberly spent her formative years in Mathews County, Virginia. For over 25 years of her life, she was a member of Zion Baptist Church of Cardinal, Virginia, under the leadership of her father, the late Reverend Kim W. Bondes. As a pastor's kid, Joy sang in choirs, ushered, and faithfully participated in ministry until moving her membership with her father to the House of Jacob Ministries, where she continued to serve. Graduating from Mathews High School in 1998, Joy was outgoing and participated in several extracurricular activities, including flag, basketball, chorus, and the only drill team Mathews High School ever had, “Mad Flava.”

There will be a visitation hel st Carter Funeral Hime on Friday, Feb. 27 from 3-6 PM. Funeral Services wil be held at First Baptist Church, Morrison on Sat. Feb. 28 at 12:00 noon.

ANITA ALBERTA VASSAR
Anita Alberta Vassar was born on January 19, 1939, in Cape May, New Jersey, to George Brogden and Florence Jarmon. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, evangelist, businesswoman, public servant, friend, and, foremost, a child of God, appropriately described as a godly woman who vigorously pursued the abundance in life that God promised.
Anita dedicated her life to her family and nursing career; she was a compassionate soul who devoted herself to healing and caring for others. Losing a nurse is like losing a guardian angel of health. Not only was Anita a nurse, but she also, with her husband, Charles W. Vassar Sr., owned Vassar’s Family Restaurant, where they shared a passion for cooking and feeding the community. She also enjoyed gardening, music, Harley-Davidson Motorcycles, and making a positive impact on her community.
She was known for her kindness, sense of humor, and unwavering dedication. Anita had an extraordinary ability to bring joy and comfort to those around her, always offering a listening ear and a warm smile. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In mourning yet rejoicing in her purposeful life are her children, George Jarmon (Petra), Edna Stringfield, Charmaine Vassar-Bell (Michael), Charles W. Vassar, Jr. (Ginger), Dwayne Vassar (Jean), Reuben Vassar (Leticia), Jakuta Williams (Jess), grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friend Kimberly Alston.
Anita was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Vassar Sr.; her parents, George Brogden and Florence Jarmon; stepfather, William Jarmon; and sisters, Delores Matthews and Dorothy Jarmon.
Anita Vassar’s legacy of love and compassion will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends.

A viewing will occur from 11-6 on Monday, Feb. 23, 2026 at Carter Funeral Home. A visitation with family present will be held from 6-7 pm.

Harry Lee Tabb, III born on December 4, 1969 in Baltimore Maryland passed away peacefully in Virginia Beach on February 4, 2026. He was the beloved son of Harry Lee Tab, Jr. and Carolyn Reed Tabb. A visitation will be held at Carter Funeral Home, Denbigh Chapel 251 Richneck Rd., Newport News, VA 23608 on Friday, 13 February from 5 to 7 PM.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2026 at First United Baptist Church, 6188 Geo. Washington Memorial Hwy. Gloucester VA 23061 starting at 11:00 am. There will be a viewing prior to the service from 10-11am.
