Smoky Mountain Home Health & Hospice, Inc.

Smoky Mountain Home Health & Hospice, Inc. Since 1982, Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice has been a trusted provider of home health and hospice care to thousands of East Tennessee residents.

Tammy Francis, RN, CDE, started Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice (SMHHH) in 1982 literally out of the trunk of her car. After completing nursing school, she soon realized that many frail, elderly and home-bound people really want to stay at home in their later years to receive health care services. At that time, there were not many options available for in-home care services in rural communi

ties like Newport, much less woman-owned small businesses. Now, 30 years later, she continues to manage the agency on a daily basis. SMHHH maintains four branch offices in Greeneville, Morristown, Kingsport and a new office in Knoxville that provides hospice care only. The corporate office still remains in Newport and the agency serves 13 East Tennessee counties, growing from the original Cocke, Hamblen, Jefferson and Greene to also service Claiborne, Grainger, Hawkins, Sevier, Hancock, Sullivan, Washington, and Unicoi counties. The agency's Knoxville office provides hospice care only.

Medicare surveys the family of every hospice patient we care for, and publishes what they say.

Smoky Mountain Home Health & Hospice rates five stars — the highest of any hospice in East Tennessee.

We're proud of that. We're prouder of the nurses, aides, social workers and chaplains who earned it, one family at a time.

Don't take our word for it. Medicare publishes the results for every hospice in the country — link in the comments.

Mark your calendars: Friday, September 11, we're teaming up with The Heritage Center for a First Responders Hydration Station — held at The Heritage Center's location in Morristown. Every first responder in the area is welcome to swing by the drive-thru under the portico at The Heritage Center starting at 9am — a cold drink, a snack, and real gratitude for the people who show up for us every day.

More details to come. Thank you to our own Karen Crumbley for putting this together with our friends at The Heritage Center.

When a hospital says "this is who we use" for home health or hospice care, it can feel like the decision has already been made for you. It hasn't.

Medicare rules give patients and families the right to choose their own provider — not just the one a facility defaults to. We put together a short guide on what home health and hospice actually are, and how to make sure that choice is yours

When a loved one is discharged from the hospital and told they need home health or hospice care, most families hear some version of the same sentence: "This is who we use." A folder gets handed over with a name already filled

We're so proud to be a sponsor! Thank you Concord Place Memory Care for the opportunity!

Join us on August 14th at 2:00 PM at Concord Place to celebrate the extraordinary impact nurses have made in our community and beyond. This special event honors the legacies of nurses through both Living Tributes and Memorial Services presented by the East Tennessee Nurse Honor Guard.

Whether you're a nurse, a family member, or someone whose life has been touched by a nurse's care, we invite you to join us for this meaningful celebration.

When: August 14th | 2:00 PM
