Hey friends,
We are celebrating Dolly Day on Sept 25th and we have some fun things planned!! First up, we will be having a coloring contest.
For this contest we will have 3 age groups:

-5 and under
-6-10 years
-11 years and up

We have the coloring sheet at the office if you want to stop by and get one. They are due back by Sept 21 in order to be entered for the drawing. We can’t wait to see all the beautiful butterflys that we get.

Newport Pediatrics will be honoring Dolly during the month of September with a butterfly coloring contest for our kids, and some special treats during a celebration of her legacy on September 25th. 🏠 Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Update:

Douglas-Cherokee Economic Authority currently has funding for assistance with your home heating and cooling costs. If you have not applied for LIHEAP through the online portal since November of 2025, please do so now.

LIHEAP is income-based. You can find the Tennessee statewide income eligibility scale at DCEA-LIHEAP.org. If your household is within the income limits, please go to https://THDA.SmartSimple.us to apply.

If you need assistance, you may call the Douglas-Cherokee Economic Authority office in your county:

•Cocke County – 423.623.3066
•Jefferson County – 865.475.4745
•Sevier County – 865.453.7131

A note about SAFE SLEEP from our nurse supervisor Latonia:

Just a reminder that if your baby is asleep remember your ABC's (Alone, on their Back, in a Crib).

If your baby is in a car seat, bouncer, swing, or any other infant device you should have eyes on them or they should be removed from that device. Babies have a shorter neck and limited head control. These devices can cause them to get into a position that may cut off their airway.

If you are a parent to a new little one I urge you to do your research on safe sleep. Below are some recommendations....

Alone ( no people, no pillows, no blankets, no stuffies)
Room sharing but NOT bed sharing is advised.
Place them on their Back to sleep.
Place them in a Crib or other safe sleep item designed for an infant. (no soft surfaces)
Offer a pacifier at naptime/bedtime.
Make sure they do not get overheated.
Provide them with a smoke free environment.

If you have any questions always speak with your child's medical provider.
