☀️ Summer heat can be harder on our bodies than it used to be.

As we age, our bodies become less efficient at regulating temperature. Certain medications, chronic health conditions, alcohol use, dehydration, and carrying extra weight can make it even more difficult to stay cool, increasing the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Stay safe this summer by:
💧 Drinking water regularly, even if you don't feel thirsty!
🏠 Spending time in air-conditioned spaces during extreme heat
👕 Wearing lightweight, light-colored clothing
🌳 Taking frequent breaks in the shade
👥 Checking in on older family members, friends, and neighbors

A little extra caution can help you stay healthy and enjoy everything summer has to offer.

What can you do in three hours?

You can run errands.
Watch a movie.
Sleep in.

Or you can spend three hours helping change and save lives.

On Saturday, August 1, our community will come together for the 12th Annual Changing the Face of Addiction Walk. Whether you've been personally affected by substance use or not, your presence sends a powerful message: recovery matters and no one should have to struggle alone.

The truth is, there is often someone close to us who is hurting quietly, embarrassed or ashamed to ask for help. By showing up, we help break the stigma, normalize recovery, and remind people that hope and support are available.

Bring your family. Walk with friends. Walk for someone you love. Walk for someone you'll never meet.

Together, we can save lives. Register today!

Walk sponsorships are still available - show your community leadership.

As parents, educators, coaches, medical professionals, and community members, we each have a role to play in protecting young athletes, especially when injuries happen.

Young athletes face a higher risk of opioid misuse following injuries or surgeries, often because pain management conversations don't go far enough. Talking openly about the risks, offering healthy coping strategies, and building a strong support system can make all the difference.

Check in with the young athlete in your life. Ask the hard questions. Listen without judgment. And remind them that asking for help is its own kind of strength. 💙
