We had a really meaningful visit from the Wichita Nurses Honor Guard during a recent Celebration of Life ceremony at KCH as they came to recognize two of our residents who spent their careers as nurses.
During the ceremony, one of the nurses sharing the tribute said something that really stayed with us: “They were there.”
They were there during some of the best days of people’s lives.
And they were there during some of the worst.
They were there for new babies, difficult diagnoses, celebrations, grief, long nights, uncertain moments and everything in between.
The Nightingale Tribute is a longstanding nursing tradition that honors nurses for their years of service and the people they cared for throughout their careers.
When you get to know our residents, you quickly realize that there is so much more to their story than the number of years they’ve been with us.
It’s been our privilege being part of their stories.
We’re thankful to the Wichita Nurses Honor Guard for taking the time to honor these two KCH residents and for the reminder that sometimes the most important thing you can do for another person is simply BE THERE.
