Morning Star Zen Sangha

Morning Star Zen Sangha Morning Star Zen Sangha is a Living Vow Zen practice group meeting weekly in Newton, MA. We meet Wednesday evenings from 7:30-8:45 PM either on Zoom or at St.

Morning Star Zen Sangha is a warm, inclusive community of Dharma practitioners dedicated to helping us wake up, appreciate life, and liberate all beings. John’s Episcopal Church, 297 Lowell Avenue, Newton, MA (please see our website calendar). Join us on any Wednesday evening, as your schedule allows. If it is your first time, please send an email and arrive 15 minutes early for an orientation. Ou

r practice includes a brief liturgy (chanting) service, two 25 minute sitting periods, walking meditation, dharma talks and discussions, and personal meditation instruction in voluntary private meetings with Zen teacher Michael Fieleke. Morning Star Zen Sangha, in conjunction with other Living Vow Zen sanghas, also hosts weekend retreats for intensive practice. Additionally, we offer occasional Saturday practices at a private residence in Waltham. Saturday gatherings will frequently include a support group for socially engaged Buddhist practice. Engaged Buddhists draw on the teachings of the Buddha to inform our actions on issues such as environmentalism, war, poverty, and systemic discrimination. Socially engaged Buddhism is a mindful practice that arises naturally from awakening to the interdependence of all beings. Our liberation is inseparable from the liberation of all beings.
