Meet Alex, one of our veterinary technicians! Her love for horses began at a very young age and ultimately inspired her to pursue a career in veterinary medicine. Having been riding horses since she was six years old, horses have always been a big part of her life!

One of Alex’s favorite parts of veterinary medicine is helping animals in need and getting to see them recover, so they can continue enjoying life with their humans. She also loves working alongside her fellow technicians and being part of a team dedicated to providing the best care possible for our patients.

Outside the hospital, Alex enjoys spending time with her own little menagerie, including two horses, a donkey, a goat, and a dog! When she’s not caring for animals, you can find her riding and showing in Cowboy Dressage, visiting national parks, or enjoying a trip to Disneyland.

For Alex, her lifelong love of horses carries into both her personal life and her work in equine medicine. Being able to help patients recover and get back to enjoying life with their people is one of the most rewarding parts of what she does.

Thank you, Alex, for the compassion, dedication, and love for animals you bring to our team and our patients. We’re grateful to have you as part of the SoCal Equine family!

Meet Misa, one of our veterinary technicians! Having graduated in 2024, Misa has a strong focus on equine medicine, with experience working with livestock as well. His passion for animals began while growing up as his grandpa’s ranch hand, where he developed a love for animals and a curiosity about the science behind their health and care.

One of the things Misa loves most about veterinary medicine is the excitement and intensity of emergency surgery, especially colic surgeries. From start to finish, including intubation, anesthesia monitoring, and recovery, he thrives on the fast-paced, hands-on nature of these cases. For Misa, every step keeps him on his toes, and that’s exactly what he loves about it!

Proudly raised in Mexico for half of his life, Misa carries his roots with pride. His background, hands-on experience, and passion for animal health have helped shape the technician he is today. To Misa, equine medicine is more than a career; it’s his passion and purpose.

Thank you, Misa, for the enthusiasm, dedication, and passion you bring to our team and our patients. We’re grateful to have you as part of the SoCal Equine family!

Meet Cora, one of our veterinary technicians! With 6 years of experience in veterinary medicine, Cora’s passion for horses began at a very young age, thanks to her grandmother, who introduced her to the equine lifestyle. She’s been all in ever since!

One of Cora’s favorite parts of veterinary medicine is the opportunity to build relationships with people from all walks of life. She especially enjoys assisting in surgery, heading out on farm calls, and working alongside such an amazing team. For Cora, equine medicine is about more than caring for horses; it’s also about the people and connections that make this work so meaningful.

Outside the hospital, Cora loves spending time outdoors, whether that means camping, being out at the lake, or making memories with those closest to her. At home, she shares her life with two sweet dogs, Dally, an Australian Shepherd, and Birdy, a Border Collie, along with three Quarter Horses and one donkey!

A fun fact about Cora is that she was a rodeo queen for many years! She loved having the opportunity to serve as a role model for the younger generation, making it a special chapter in her life.

One of the most meaningful parts of Cora’s job is being able to pour her heart into something she is so passionate about. From helping with late-night emergencies to supporting clients through some of their most difficult moments, she values the opportunity to make a difference when it matters most. These experiences reflect the compassion and dedication she brings to both her patients and the people who love them.

Thank you, Cora, for the heart, compassion, and dedication you bring to our team and our patients. We’re grateful to have you as part of the SoCal Equine family!

Meet Jesus, one of our veterinary technicians! With 5 years in veterinary medicine, Jesus’s passion for horses and all things equine is what inspired him to pursue this field. For him, working with horses is more than a career; it’s something he loves so much that it never really feels like work!

Jesus especially enjoys assisting in surgery, performing dentals, and placing catheters. He loves the hands-on nature of equine medicine and the opportunity to continue building his skills while helping make a difference in the lives of our patients.

His love for animals extends well beyond the clinic! Outside of work, you can often find Jesus riding his horses. He and his family share their lives with an impressive crew of animals, including 8 horses, 2 donkeys, 2 dogs, and around 13 sheep! And if you ever need someone to cook up something good, Jesus might just surprise you with his skills in the kitchen.

One of his most meaningful experiences in veterinary medicine has been helping save the donkeys. Being able to make a difference in their lives is something that has stayed with him and reflects the very heart of what makes this work so rewarding.

Meet Bianca, one of our veterinary technicians! With 3 years in veterinary medicine, Bianca’s passion for animal welfare and being an advocate for her patients is at the heart of why she chose this profession.

Her favorite part of veterinary medicine is being able to help animals in need while working alongside an amazing team. She enjoys all aspects of equine medicine and takes pride in being part of the team that keeps our patients receiving the care they deserve.

Outside the clinic, Bianca enjoys spending time with friends, visiting Disneyland and Universal Studios, and, of course, enjoying a good Diet Coke! At home, she shares life with her two dogs, Oliver, a German Shepherd mix, and Otis, a Pug, along with her two tabby cats, Phoebe and Velma.

One of the most rewarding parts of her job is seeing patients recover and return home to make more memories with their owners. Those moments are a reminder of why the work our team does every day matters so much.

Thank you, Bianca, for the compassion, dedication, and heart you bring to our team and our patients!

🐴💙 ❤️Happy Veterinary Technician Appreciation Week! ❤️💙🐴

While this week gives us a special reason to celebrate our veterinary technicians, their dedication and impact deserve recognition every single day.

Our technicians are the lifeblood of our hospital. They are essential to the efficiency of our practice, the quality of care we provide, and the safety of our patients, clients, and doctors. From the long hours and demanding days to the countless details that often go unseen, they are an integral part of everything we do.

With the ongoing shortage of veterinary professionals, particularly those pursuing careers in large animal and equine medicine, we are incredibly fortunate to have a team that shows up every day with compassion, dedication, and a genuine commitment to our patients and the people who care for them.

To our current technicians, thank you for the work you do, the knowledge you bring, and the countless ways you make a difference. Our hospital would not be what it is without you. 🩺🐎

We also recognize and extend our gratitude to the technicians who have been part of our SoCal Equine story along the way. Every person who has been part of this team has contributed something meaningful to our growth, our knowledge, and the standard of care we strive to provide. We carry those lessons forward, and we sincerely wish you all the best in whatever comes next.

To every technician who has been part of our journey, past and present, thank you for the role you’ve played in shaping who we are today.

Here’s to the people behind the scenes, beside the patients, and alongside the doctors—your work matters more than you know. 💙

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Robbie Ramirez back to SoCal Equine Hospital!

A Riverside local, Dr. Robbie earned his bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from Cal Poly Pomona before earning his DVM from Western University of Health Sciences. Before veterinary school, Robbie spent four years as a technician at SoCal Equine, where Dr. Wan and the team gave him his start in equine medicine. It’s a place he’s always been grateful for, making the opportunity to return as Dr. Robbie pretty special.

His love for horses started early—and perhaps a little unconventionally. After fixing the broken leg of a model horse as a child, Robbie decided that veterinary medicine might be his calling. Whether or not a plastic horse counts as his first patient, the career choice certainly stuck. His love of horses has followed him beyond the clinic as well, including his involvement in the model horse community and events such as BreyerFest.

Dr. Robbie’s clinical interests include large animal internal medicine and emergency and critical care, with hopes of potentially pursuing a residency in the future. Ultimately, he hopes to build a career that allows him to give back to the community that raised him—educating owners, helping horses, and being there for as many people and animals as he can.

When he’s not at the hospital, Robbie can usually be found spending time with his dogs, Elton and Dolly, catching a few rounds of Magic with his favorite people, hunting for the next piece of shiny cardboard, or tending to his ever-growing army of orchids and monsteras. At home, his cat Willow makes sure he’s never entirely unsupervised.

We’re excited to welcome Dr. Robbie back to SoCal Equine Hospital and look forward to having him on the team!

Welcome back, Dr. Robbie!
