Think avoiding foods with “egg” on the label is enough? Think again.
Eggs can hide behind ingredient names that aren’t always obvious, making label reading more challenging for those with an egg allergy.
Some ingredients that may indicate the presence of egg include:
• Albumin (or egg albumin)
• Ovalbumin
• Ovomucoid
• Ovoglobulin
• Livetin
• Vitellin
• Egg lecithin*
• Lysozyme (E1105)
*Always read the full ingredient list, ingredient sources can vary!!
Learning these hidden names can help you avoid accidental exposure and make grocery shopping a little less stressful.
