She had no symptoms. She couldn't feel a lump. But a routine mammogram detected her breast cancer at stage 1A.

For 30 years, Fran Peed, senior director for quality improvement across Sentara hospitals in Virginia Beach and Northeast North Carolina, has made annual mammograms part of her routine. This year, that commitment to screening made all the difference.

Her diagnosis also gave her a new perspective on the healthcare system she has spent her career helping improve. Now experiencing care as a patient, she has learned the importance of patience, asking for help and leaning on the people who support you through the journey.

Today, Fran is sharing her story with an important reminder for others: "Take care of yourself, because as women, we often take care of others first. Screenings take 15 to 20 minutes... You are worth the time to get screened."

Through gentle fitness, yoga, mindful movement and wellness practices, participants can build strength, reduce stress, improve mobility and connect with others who understand the cancer experience.
