✨These beautiful photos, captured mostly by photographer Evangeline Renee, perfectly reflect the love between Sophia and Angelo and the joy they felt as they welcomed their daughter, Fenna, into the world.

Fenna kept everyone waiting a little longer than Sophia’s previous babies, and her birth happened while I was out of town. Thankfully, backup midwife Sonya and birth assistant Brittney provided excellent care and support for this sweet family.

It has been such an honor to be part of their journey. Congratulations, Sophia and Angelo, on your precious new blessing!

💙 Oh baby Benny, I’m so happy you are finally here 💙

Three years ago, I attended the homebirth of this family’s first baby. Last month, I had the honor of being there when they welcomed their second little one into the world.

After a false alarm labor that kept us guessing for weeks, Benny finally arrived in a powerful, beautiful birth with his mother confidently birthing him into his daddy’s hands. He was surrounded and greeted by several family members who welcomed him with so much love.

Watching families grow and being a part of their life story is one of the greatest joys of being a midwife. 🤍 Congrats Landon and Sophia!

Mi-Shelle chose homebirth for her first baby in Alaska, and I was impressed by the wisdom and confidence she had as a young mother to make that wise choice. It was such a lovely first birth experience that, of course, she wanted the same for this baby here in Oklahoma.

This birth unfolded quickly! Mi-Shelle welcomed her baby into the world with her own hands while her partner, Joseph, watched in amazement. As this was his first baby, it was especially meaningful to witness him stepping into fatherhood.

Baby James arrived alert and healthy, with a full head of dark hair. Everyone is doing wonderfully, and the family is thriving.

Congratulations to the family! Thank you to Brittney and Cheyenne .with.cheyenne for your support and assistance at this birth.

It is never lost on me how special it is to be invited into these sacred spaces to witness new babies being born. And alongside that, I get to witness a mother being born too.

Karissa’s labor took her through a fire that forged her into the strong mother she needs to be for her son, Reuben. It was raw, intense, and difficult—and yet, she did it. She grew in her confidence and discovered that she can do hard things.

And through it all, her husband, Rocky, was right there beside her, holding her up and encouraging her every step of the way. It was beautiful to watch them working together.

✨I’m so proud of this new family, and incredibly grateful for , who is always such an excellent birth assistant.

Jannet followed her intuition and did her research before choosing a homebirth for her third baby. As a result, she experienced a beautiful, powerful, and peaceful birth in the comfort of her own home.

Her labor was fast, her husband offered steady support and encouragement, and both grandmothers were present to witness this incredible moment. And just look at what cute babies they make. 💙 Welcome Boden Santiago.

~It was truly a joy to midwife her through this experience. 🤍
Thank you to for your support and assistance.

Please don't be timing contractions that are more then 10 minutes apart. GO TO SLEEP!!! Missing that first night of sleep when you think labor is starting is so detrimental to getting the job done

Everyone talks about engorgement when milk “comes in”… rock hard b***s. Night sweats.

…but far fewer people talk about the hormonal shift that arrives with it

For many mothers, this starts somewhere between 24–72 hours postpartum

You can go from an emotional high (relief, adrenaline, even euphoria after birth) into a sudden drop that feels surprisingly intense

This is the same window when your body is rapidly transitioning from colostrum to larger volumes of milk
But it’s not just about your breasts, it’s a full hormonal recalibration

After the placenta is delivered, estrogen and progesterone fall quickly
Prolactin rises to build milk supply
Oxytocin pulses to release milk

That rapid shift can land in your body as:

* Weepiness that seems to come out of nowhere
* A sudden mood drop after feeling “up”
* Waves of anxiety or uneasiness, often around feeds
* Feeling emotionally raw, overwhelmed, or shaky
* Night sweats or chills

Some mothers describe it as a wave. Something that builds, peaks, and then passes
Others notice they’re crying without a clear reason, especially in those early days when everything is new and intense

This experience is often called the “baby blues,” and it lines up closely with the timing of milk transition and engorgement. It’s not postpartum depression, it’s a temporary wave of emotions

It’s a reflection of how quickly your hormones are shifting while your body initiates milk production

For most, these feelings are temporary and begin to ease as milk supply regulates and hormone levels stabilize

If emotions feel constant instead of wave-like, are getting heavier instead of lighter, or come with intrusive thoughts or persistent dread, that’s a sign to bring in more support

This early postpartum window is not just about feeding your baby, it’s also a major physiological and emotional transition for you

Feeling weepy, sensitive, or not quite like yourself during this time is a common part of that shift 💛
