Nature's Pace

Nature's Pace Nature's Pace is for kids to explore wooded trails with the freedom to climb trees, build forts, smell wildflowers, and PLAY Welcome to the new Nature’s Pace!

Though no one could possibly fill Christine’s shoes, I’m so excited to see this program continue! A little about me: I grew up in Andover with woods in my backyard. My childhood best friend and I would spend hours exploring and making forts. I moved to North Andover in 2008. I have always had a passion for teaching and have been doing so for the past 19 years. Starting my career in Haverhill out

of college, I then transferred to Boxford where I teach 5th grade for the past 11 years. Before having my own kids, Logan & Dylan, I spent summers helping run a summer rec program in Groveland. Working with kids has always been on the forefront of my career. Thank you for following and I can’t wait to continue this fantastic program!

Today’s adventure brought us to Glennie Woodlot, which is a wonderful spot for a peaceful hike as well as some bird watching. This is the location of a Heron Rookery, and we were lucky enough to see two! There was some fort making, fairy house building, nature picture making, obstacle course challenges, an “army” game created by the boys, and acorn whistles! You never know which way the hike will go with these imaginative kids 🌿

Summer Camp Week 5: We headed over to Harold Parker in Andover. Got to see lots of wildlife or evidence of them, like frogs, snakes, and beaver damns. We made boats and creatures out of nature, looked at plants from the pond up close with magnifying glasses, and ended with a game of Camouflage! 🐸 🐍 🦫

We loved looking for the smiley faces on the yellow trail markers! 🙂 We made it further down the trail to the rocky beach and along the way found one of the animal homes that we made two weeks ago still intact. Checked out curious logs, sampled from the blueberry bush, balanced on fallen trees, then made and raced creatures from pinecones! 🌿

New week of Summer Camp! This group enjoyed boat making- with many successes, created some nature creatures, and of course tree climbing. We got to see some slugs and birds and interesting smelling nuts. The most exciting part was getting to see an owl staring down at us 🦉

Last day of Week 1 Summer Camp! These little legs made it to the top of Weir Hill! Once at the top they took a well deserved break with some tootsie pops and wrote their name in sticks. We got to see a huge beetle, discovered some cool smelling nuts, and got to pet lots of dogs. We even were lucky enough to run into Mrs Cohne- the original founder of Nature’s Pace! Such a fun surprise. 🌿

Day 2- These little explorers had a busy morning! We started our hike with a rainbow hunt nature wand… as we went along the trail we found something of each color of the rainbow to add to our stick. We were able to complete it because this trail has a blueberry bush (which of course we had to sample first). We also made animal homes and bird feeders! We ended the hike finding purple flowers to complete our nature sticks 🌈🌿

Week 1 of Summer Camp was off to great start with some brand new explorers! We ventured down Joyce’s Trail at Edgewood and made some bark boats, explored the waters edge and found lots of shells, painted rocks, and climbed some trees. 🌿

Today I had the opportunity to connect with North Andover Youth Center and their volunteer program, “Knight Work”. These 6-8 graders accompanied by awesome Summer Fun Counselors, picked up trash along Weir Hill! Luckily- the trails were already so well taken care of, kids were commenting that they barely could find any trash! 🌿💚👏
