The reassurance felt like relief.οΏ½
It was actually a trap.
Not because you did anything wrong, but because anxiety is very good at convincing you that checking, avoiding, and asking for reassurance is keeping you safe.
It isn't. It's keeping the fear in charge.
This is one of the most important things to understand about emetophobia β€” and it's one of the first things we address in treatment.

You've probably never said any of this out loud.

But you've been living it. Quietly, for years.

Emetophobia is one of the most common phobias most people have never heard of. And one of the most treatable.

Save this if it resonates. Share it if you know someone who needs to see it.

Emetophobia is one of the most common phobias most people have never heard of.

If you've been living with it β€” silently, for years β€” you're not alone. And you're not "too much."

This has a name. And there's a specific, structured treatment that works.

I've worked with people who struggled with driving anxiety for decades, and made more progress in a few months than they had in years of therapy. With the right treatment, real-world practice, and the flexibility to work intensively when needed, meaningful progress happens faster than most people expect. If driving anxiety is shrinking your world, reach out. You don't have to keep living around it. πŸ“ Massachusetts + Rhode Island | In-person + virtual | Intensives available | Private pay + OON benefits accepted

Not all driving anxiety is the same, and treating it like it is slows everything down. Whether yours is rooted in panic, OCD, or trauma, the treatment approach needs to match the actual source. That's where ERP, interoceptive exposure, and EMDR come in. If previous therapy hasn't worked, it may not have been the wrong problem β€” just the wrong approach. πŸ“ Massachusetts + Rhode Island | In-person + virtual | Private pay + OON benefits accepted

If you've been in therapy for driving anxiety and you're still struggling β€” this might be why. Coping skills aren't the same as treatment. Deep breathing gets you through the drive. The right approach changes what happens in your brain before you even get in the car. There's a difference β€” and it matters. πŸ“ Serving Massachusetts + Rhode Island | In-person + virtual | Private pay + OON accepted

If you've been told you have driving anxiety but therapy hasn't helped β€” it's worth asking whether trauma might be part of the picture. EMDR is one of the most effective, research-backed treatments for trauma, and when combined with exposure-based approaches, it can address driving anxiety at its actual root. πŸ“ I work with clients in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, in-person and virtually. Private pay and out-of-network benefits accepted. DM me or visit the link in my bio to learn more.

Driving anxiety doesn't just affect your commute β€” it quietly shrinks your life. If panic attacks or fear of losing control have made driving feel impossible, you don't have to keep white-knuckling it forever. I specialize in treating the root cause of anxiety and panic using structured, evidence-based approaches β€” not just coping strategies. DM me or visit the link in my bio to learn more. πŸ“ Serving clients in Massachusetts and Rhode Island | In-person + virtual available

Sometimes driving anxiety is not about driving itself.

It is about specific situations like highways, bridges, or tunnels that begin to feel overwhelming or hard to tolerate. Over time, avoidance can quietly expand and limit where you go.

This type of anxiety is very treatable with the right approach. You can rebuild confidence gradually and feel more in control again.
