⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Two years running and this one means a lot.

Molly and her team trusted us again to handle transportation for their amputee event, and "flawlessly executed" is exactly what we aim for every single time. Timely, professional, and communicative from start to finish.

Thank you, Molly! Supporting events and groups across our community is one of the best parts of what we do.

If you're researching transportation options for an elderly parent or loved one, this list is for you.

Not every transport service is created equal — and the right questions upfront can save you a lot of stress later.

Here are 5 things to ask before you book:

1. Are your drivers trained in passenger assistance?
Look for certifications like CPR, defensive driving, and experience with mobility-limited passengers. "We're insured" isn't enough.

2. Is this door-to-door, or curb-to-curb?
There's a big difference between a driver who drops off at the entrance and one who walks your mom inside and makes sure she's checked in.

3. What happens if my loved one needs to wait longer than expected?
Appointments run late. What's the protocol? Will they wait? Is there a fee?

4. Can I provide medical or mobility notes in advance?
A good provider will want to know about walkers, wheelchairs, anxiety around transport, or health conditions before the ride — not during.

5. How do I reach a real person if something comes up?
If the answer is "through the app," keep looking.

We believe families should feel confident asking every one of these questions — and we're always happy to answer them.

What else would you add to this list? Drop it below.

What an honor to be part of something this meaningful. 💙

Freedom First Transportation was proud to provide accessible shuttle transportation for participants at the BAKA Boot Camp, hosted by Hanger Clinic in Schaumburg — a multi-day event bringing together bilateral above-knee amputees for mobility training, strength building, peer support, and so much more.

Events like this remind us exactly why accessible transportation matters. Getting there shouldn’t be the hard part — especially when something this powerful is waiting on the other side.

Proud to serve this community, and grateful to Hanger Clinic for trusting us to help make it happen.

A day in the life of a Freedom First driver looks something like this:

6:15 AM — Vehicle check. Every safety point, every time. No shortcuts.
7:30 AM — First pickup. Her name is Eleanor. She's got a standing appointment on the first Thursday of every month. She likes the radio low and the window cracked just a little.
9:00 AM — A quick call to dispatch to confirm the afternoon schedule.
11:45 AM — A hospital pickup, post-procedure. He's moving slowly today. That's okay. We wait.
2:00 PM — Two more stops. A dialysis center. A senior living community.
4:30 PM — Last drop-off. Door to door. Every time.

What our drivers bring to this work isn't just a clean driving record. It's patience. Steadiness. A genuine belief that every person in that vehicle deserves to be treated with dignity.

We're proud of this team. Every single one of them.

On a 90-degree day, a parked car can reach 130 degrees in under 20 minutes.

For older adults — especially those with heart conditions, respiratory issues, or who are on certain medications that kind of heat exposure during a transfer or wait can be genuinely dangerous.

It's something we're mindful of every single summer ride.

Our vehicles are cooled before pickup. Our drivers don't leave riders waiting in the heat. And we never leave anyone in a parked vehicle unattended.

Little things. But they matter.

We're not a national company with a call center somewhere else.

We're local. We know these roads. We know these communities. And we genuinely care about the people we serve, because they're our neighbors.

DuPage and Will County families trust us with the people they love most. That's not something we take lightly.

If you've ridden with us — or if we've served someone in your family — thank you for that trust. It means everything to this team.

"I think I need to stop driving."

It's one of the hardest conversations in a family and it usually comes with a lot of grief on both sides. A loss of independence. A shift in the relationship. A whole new set of questions about how life is going to work now.

We work with a lot of families who are in that transition.

If yours is one of them, we want you to know: there's a way through it that still preserves dignity, routine, and independence — just with a little more support.

We're here when you're ready to figure it out.

Quick reminder for anyone caring for an older adult this summer:

Dehydration is one of the leading causes of emergency room visits for seniors in the summer months — and the tricky part is that many older adults don't feel thirsty even when their body needs water.

Before any outing or appointment, make sure they've had something to drink. Keep water in the vehicle. Don't assume they'll ask.

We think about stuff like this too — because getting someone to their appointment safely means more than just the drive.

If you work at a senior living community — assisted living, independent living, memory care — you know that transportation coordination can eat up a significant chunk of your staff's time and energy.

We want to change that.

Here's how Freedom First Transportation works with senior living communities in DuPage and Will County:

SIMPLE COORDINATION
You share the resident's appointment details, needs, and access information. We handle the rest. No complicated intake, no back-and-forth that pulls your team off the floor.

RIDER-SPECIFIC NOTES ON FILE
We keep detailed notes for each recurring rider — mobility equipment, preferred communication style, medical context that affects how we assist. Your staff doesn't have to re-explain the same things every time.

CONSISTENT, FAMILIAR DRIVERS WHEN POSSIBLE
Routine matters for older adults — especially those with cognitive changes. We work to assign consistent drivers to recurring riders so the relationship builds over time.

REAL DISPATCHER CONTACT
Your activity director or nursing staff can reach a real person at any point during a ride. Not a tracking app. A person.

SAME-DAY FLEXIBILITY
We do our best to accommodate last-minute requests and appointment changes — because we know care schedules don't always stick to the plan.

We're not just a vendor. We're a partner. And we take the trust senior communities place in us seriously.
