Preparing for the Upcoming Ski Season

This year, we want you to prepare your body better than ever before for the upcoming snow riding season. Check out the line up of class and individual snow sports prehab and events.

Ski Conditioning Group Class

In addition to our individual and partner intensive series, we are teaming up with the Alpine Training Project (ATP) to host an in person ski conditioning series. There is rigor behind this program. It is based upon the best injury risk reduction evidence available. And all ATP instructors must be certified and be physical therapists. Kathryn and I are certified ATP instructors and will serve as your guides through the in-person training. In addition to the in person training, there is an online component you have access to for 6 months to boost or maintain your fitness. There are uphill athlete and downhill athlete specific training paths as part of the online training.

ATP in person classes will be taught starting 10/15/25 and continue for 6 weeks on Wednesdays at 7pm. The price is $230 for the in person class and access to online content for 6 months. This will fill up FAST since we are only doing 1 offering. Here is the link to sign up (https://alpinetrainingproject.com/join/iron-horse-pt-wednesdays-erik-bies-pt/) . You can also visit alpinetrainingproject.com (http://www.alpinetrainingproject.com) for more details and click on in-person classes.

Individual or Partner Snow Sports Prehab

For those of you that want a more individualized approach to ski and snowboard conditioning, I will continue to offer the original 6 session intensive, 1-on-1 or 2-on-1, program. In the first session, we evaluate for the modifiable risk factors that are associated with ACL (knee) injury. We build your home and/or gym program together from there, and the visits can be spaced out as needed to allow you to adapt appropriately. This series is $1200 for individuals and $1600 for partner sessions. Email me or call to set it up! [email protected] or 425-292-3351.

ACL Injury Risk Reduction Blog Post

Back in 2022, I posted about the modifiable factors related to ACL injuries and skiing. Check it out https://ironhorseptandperformance.com/knee-injury-prevention-for-skiers/.

Workshop

There will be a free educational workshop on ACL injury risk reduction at Iron Horse PT and Performance. Look for that coming on a November evening as the stoke level begins to rise. Details to come.

Having issues on your bike, or did you just get a new bike? Join Kathryn Dove, PT DPT and I at The Line in North Bend to uncover a deeper understanding of matching up your body and your bike. Though we typically do bike fits for those dealing with pain, getting your fit dialed in is an upstream strategy to prevent overuse injury from your head to toe. No fancy equipment needed. Just knowledge and basic tools are all you need to make simple fixes. As doctors of physical therapy and as riders, we are always thinking about efficient movement, force distribution, trading off workloads, and how our adjustments impact our client’s riding experience as we make changes to their bike. If you are dealing with pain, we will share the most common fixes we have to make for riders and explain why. Sign up at theline.bike/events. It’s going to be a good time! 🤘🏻🚲

Resistance Training for Runners

Looking for that extra boost to add to your running? Come join us next Wednesday. We'll be covering resistance training methods to enhance your running performance, injury resistance, and longevity. The speaker is ME!

I don't like tooting my own horn, but sometimes I have to do it for credibility in this area of specialty for me. You can take my word for it or continue... Yes, I'm a physical therapist, but prior to that I poured my heart and soul into learning as much about training theory related to endurance running performance. While earning a Master's degree in exercise physiology and biomechanics, I coached cross country and track and field and Western Washington U, with the intent that coaching would be my lifelong profession. I was an accomplished track athlete as well, competing at the NCAA DII and DIII national level. I always enjoy putting my experience as an athlete, coach, and physical therapist together. I look forward to sharing what I've learned through my experience in those 3 areas. If you've read this far...who knows, you may even get a fishing picture out of the talk :).

Hope to see you Next Wednesday.
