Dr. Rebecca Resnik's publication in Scientific Reports was spotlighted in Daily Neuron. Dr. Resnik was honored to have collaborated with Dr. Philip Resnik, Dr. Jonathan Singer, Dr. Katherine Schafer and Dr. Josh Hagedorn on this work. Dr. Resnik and her colleagues hope it contributes to improved outcomes for people during times when they find themselves struggling to find a reason to live.

Thrilled to announce that our paper was published in Scientific Reports. Our paper, authored by Philip Resnik, PhD, Rebecca Resnik PsyD, Katherine Musacchio Schafer, PhD, Jonathan Singer, Ph.D., LCSW, Josh Hagedorn, used TOPCAT analysis to evaluate the reasons that 16648 people survived suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Such methods in computational analysis of the natural language of those with lived experience has incredible potential to inform care. Having lost loved ones to death by su***de, this work is near and dear to our hearts! We hope this article contributes to the critical work of clinicians trying to save lives.

Most research on su***de focuses on the progression toward lethal action. Fewer studies have looked at individuals’ past experiences with the desire to die and why they did not die by su***de.
