Lakes Region EMS is thrilled to officially welcome the newest member of our team: Harlow!

Harlow is a 4-year-old Golden Retriever and Labrador mix who comes to us from Can Do Canines in New Hope, Minnesota. Can Do Canines is an organization dedicated to raising and training exceptional assistance dogs, and they have been instrumental in preparing Harlow for her new career.

While Harlow was originally trained as a mobility service dog, her trainers recognized that her bright, highly social, and deeply perceptive personality was perfectly suited for a different calling. They adapted her training specifically for our agency, and she now serves as our official Facility Dog.

Harlow's primary responsibility is to support the mental and emotional well-being of our EMS personnel. She is a sensitive soul who pays close attention to her surroundings. Alongside knowing numerous tricks, she is formally trained to apply deep pressure therapy and provide comfort when cued to help alleviate stress among our team.

We are incredibly excited to integrate Harlow into our daily operations and have her on shift with her handler, Supervisor Sophie. Please join us in welcoming Harlow to the Lakes Region EMS family!

The best outcomes are the result of many people working together.

Recently, Lakes Region EMS was honored by the Rush City School Board during its inaugural Community & School Recognition program, which recognized those involved in the June 19 rescue at the Rush City Aquatic Center. Thanks to the swift actions of pool staff and the coordinated response of local partners, a young swimmer made a full recovery.

We are grateful to stand alongside the Aquatic Center staff, the Chisago County Sheriff's Office, and everyone who played a role in this positive outcome. Thank you to the Rush City School District for the recognition and for celebrating the people who make our communities stronger every day.

Every call tells a story, and every response begins with a team ready to help.

In June, Lakes Region EMS responded to 808 calls across our communities. Whether it was a sudden illness, an injury, or an unexpected emergency, our crews were there to provide care when it mattered most.

Our crews delivered 1,298 interventions, providing assessment and treatment across a wide range of medical emergencies. For 625 patients, that care continued beyond the scene as they were connected with additional medical resources and treatment.

Every ambulance in our fleet is equipped with ultrasound technology, allowing our crews to assess the heart and lungs in real time. This advanced life support technology was used 16 times to support patient assessment and guide treatment decisions. To ensure our crews are prepared to use these tools effectively, they participate in quarterly education and hands-on training focused on advanced equipment and patient care scenarios. This ongoing commitment to education and clinical excellence is just one of the many ways we provide state-of-the-art care to the communities we serve.

For patients requiring ongoing treatment, our crews traveled 15,275 miles, providing continuous care and helping connect them with hospitals, specialists, and healthcare resources best suited to their needs.

Earlier this week, Lakes Region EMS participated in the annual Chisago County Sheriff’s Office Summer Safety Camp!

We enjoyed showcasing one of our ambulances to curious young minds and sharing what EMS is all about. From exploring the lifesaving equipment we use to discussing how Paramedics and EMTs help our communities every day!

Thank you to the Chisago County Sheriff’s Office for hosting this great event and giving us the opportunity to connect with local youth. We love inspiring the next generation through education, exploration, and hands-on learning!

We are proud to share an exciting milestone for Lakes Region EMS as we begin a thoughtful and intentional leadership transition. Please join us in congratulating Darin Wendel on being named the next Executive Director.

As part of a planned succession, Darin will work closely with our current Executive Director, Aarron Reinert, throughout a structured transition period leading up to Aarron’s retirement at the end of 2026, following 25 years of dedicated service.

We are grateful for Aarron’s lasting impact on our organization, our employees, and the communities we serve, and we are confident in the future ahead under Darin’s leadership.

Yesterday, the City of Rush City hosted its annual Fly-In at the Rush City Regional Airport, one of the largest community events of the year. As part of the day, the Rush City Lions Club held its annual Pancake Breakfast Fundraiser in our Rush City Hangar. They served a record crowd of more than 1,200 people.

At Lakes Region EMS, we are proud to support the communities we serve in ways that go beyond emergency care. Opening our hangar for this event helped create a space to gather, connect, and enjoy the morning.

Thank you to everyone who joined us. We look forward to seeing you again next year.

No matter the time or the call, our crews are ready to respond.

In the month of May, that meant responding to 754 calls for help across our community.

Out of those calls, 622 patients needed transport and ongoing care.
In critical situations, 187 IVs were started, and 9 patients required BiPAP support to help them breathe.

Our teams transported patients 15,540 miles to bring them to the definitive care they need, whether a local hospital or a metro specialty hospital.

These numbers reflect more than activity. They represent people who needed help and a team committed to being there every time. 💙🚑
