Postpartum Is More Than a Six-Week Checkup

Pregnancy gets months of appointments. Labor gets a hospital stay. But postpartum-the time when a mother is healing physically, emotionally, and mentally-often receives the least support.

The truth is that postpartum recovery doesn’t happen in six weeks.

✨ You’re finding your rhythm as a mother.
✨ And you deserve support through it all.

For over 30 years, Mother’s Helper has been walking alongside families during this important season. Whether you need overnight support so you can rest and recover, breastfeeding assistance from an IBCLC, newborn care guidance, or simply an experienced, compassionate presence, we’re here to help.

Are you using the right fl**ge size?

Many breastfeeding and pumping challenges can actually be related to an incorrect fl**ge fit!

A fl**ge that is too large or too small can contribute to:
✔️ Ni**le pain or discomfort
✔️ Reduced milk output
✔️ Incomplete breast emptying
✔️ Clogged ducts
✔️ Damaged ni**le tissue
✔️ Frustrating pumping sessions

At Mother's Helper, we offer professional ni**le sizing and fl**ge fitting to help make pumping more comfortable and effective. This service can be added to a lactation consultation or scheduled as a standalone appointment.

With over 30 years of experience supporting breastfeeding families, Lin Cook can help ensure your pump is working for you, not against you.

Does Having a Doula Really Make a Difference?

The research says YES.

A recent study published in the *American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology (AJOG)* found that families who received doula support experienced improved outcomes for both mothers and babies.

✨ Higher rates of successful VBACs
✨ Increased exclusive breastfeeding
✨ Fewer preterm births
✨ Better postpartum follow-up care

These findings aren't surprising to us. When mothers feel supported, informed, and empowered, they are better equipped to navigate pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period with confidence.

At Mother's Helper, Lin Cook has been serving Lowcountry families since 1988 as South Carolina's first doula. With decades of experience as a birth doula, postpartum doula, Bradley Method® instructor, and IBCLC lactation consultant, she provides compassionate, personalized support every step of the way.

Birth is more than bringing a baby into the world-it's the beginning of a new family story. Having experienced support can make all the difference. ❤️

Ready to learn how doula support can help you achieve your goals for birth and beyond? We are happy to answer any questions you have!

🍼 Where do mothers pump when they return to work?

A recent photo series highlighted something many people never think about: the spaces where breastfeeding mothers spend hours expressing milk after returning to work. Some rooms are comfortable and welcoming. Others are makeshift spaces tucked away in closets, storage rooms, or industrial areas.

These images are a powerful reminder that breastfeeding isn’t just something that happens at home. For many mothers, it means balancing work responsibilities, pumping schedules, milk storage, and the emotional challenge of being away from their baby.

✨ There’s a reason more families are choosing doula support during pregnancy and birth. ✨

A doula provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support throughout labor and delivery — helping families feel more confident, calm, and supported every step of the way. 🤍

Research has shown that having a doula may help:
• Reduce the likelihood of interventions
• Lower cesarean rates
• Shorten labor
• Improve birth satisfaction
• Increase confidence for both mom and partner
• Provide encouragement and comfort during labor and postpartum recovery

At Mother’s Helper, families are supported by Lin Cook-South Carolina’s first doula-with over 30 years of experience serving mothers throughout pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, and postpartum care. ✨

Whether you’re planning your first baby or hoping for a different experience this time around, we would love to walk alongside you.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. 🇺🇸

Because of their sacrifice, we are able to raise our children in freedom, gather with the people we love, and experience the everyday moments that matter most. Memorial Day is more than a long weekend-it is a reminder of the incredible courage, selflessness, and sacrifice made by so many families.

At Mother’s Helper, we are especially grateful for the military mothers, fathers, and families who have carried both the weight of service and the responsibility of caring for those they love. We remember those who never made it home, and we honor the legacy they left behind.

May we never take their sacrifice for granted. ❤️🤍💙
