Self-trust grows in the moments when you listen to yourself, honor what you need, make mistakes without abandoning yourself, and learn that you can handle what comes next.

The more you show yourself that you’ll be there for you, the less you need certainty, reassurance, or someone else’s permission to feel confident in your choices.

You just have to show you can trust yourself to figure it out.

Most of us were never taught how to sit with our emotions.

We were taught to distract ourselves, stay busy, push through, numb out, overthink, or try to “fix” what we feel as quickly as possible. While those strategies might bring temporary relief, they don’t necessarily help in the long run.

Creating space for feeling what you feel helps you build confidence that you can experience emotions without being consumed by them.

You can’t change a pattern you don’t understand.

Many behaviors that keep us stuck are rooted in protection:
• avoiding discomfort
• seeking reassurance
• staying in your comfort zone
• suppressing emotions
• putting everyone else first
• waiting until you feel “ready”

The tricky part? These strategies often work… temporarily.

They lower distress in the moment, but they can keep us from building confidence, connection, and the life we actually want.

Instead of asking, “What’s wrong with me?” try asking: “What is this behavior trying to do for me?”

Sometimes our first instinct is to push difficult emotions away or try to “fix” them as quickly as possible. But what if, instead of fighting them, you got curious?

The RAIN practice is a simple mindfulness exercise that can help you slow down, respond with intention, and make space for what you’re feeling.

Recognize what you’re experiencing.
Allow the feeling to be there without immediately trying to change it.
Investigate with curiosity. What do you notice in your body? What might this emotion be trying to communicate?
Nurture yourself with the same compassion you’d offer someone you care about.

Save this for the next time your emotions feel overwhelming, and come back to it whenever you need a gentle reminder to pause.

We often judge ourselves for our reactions without realizing they make sense in the context of our experiences.

Most reactions don’t come out of nowhere. Something happens, your brain quickly assigns meaning based on past experiences, your body responds, emotions show up, urges follow… and before you know it, you’re reacting on autopilot.

The good news? You don’t have to control the trigger to create change.

The biggest opportunities for change are in the middle of the chain:
Becoming aware of the story your mind is telling.
Noticing what your body is feeling.
Creating even a small pause before acting.

That pause is where choice lives.

The goal is to build awareness so your responses become more intentional and aligned with who you want to be.
