Cuff pressure is a balance.

The goal isn't to simply add air until the cuff feels firm.

An inadequately inflated cuff may contribute to air leakage and inadequate ventilation, while excessive cuff pressure can increase the risk of tracheal mucosal injury.

That's why direct pressure measurement matters.

A cuff manometer provides a way to assess cuff pressure rather than relying on palpation of the pilot balloon.

Could you explain these using a diagram alone? ๐Ÿ‘€

Some of the most important concepts in tracheostomy care happen inside the airway where they're difficult to visualize and understand.

Airflow. Cuff management. Speaking valves. Ventilation. Humidification.

Sometimes, seeing how these components interact can make the concept much easier to understand.

That's one of the ideas behind the ClearView Tracheostomy Trainer: creating a visual, enjoyable, and functional way to explore what's happening within the airway.

TTS cuffs are a great example of why understanding the โ€œwhyโ€ behind a device matters. ๐Ÿ’ง

Why sterile water?
Why silicone?
Why does tube size matter?
And why isn't the maximum fill volume necessarily the goal?

The tracheostomy cuff is designed to create a seal not to prevent aspiration.

Itโ€™s an important distinction in tracheostomy care and one that can be difficult to visualize when the relationship between the cuff and airway is hidden.
