It has been four years since the passing of our founder and leader, Dr. Lawrence Heiskell. Today would have marked his 74th birthday.
We continue to honor his legacy by carrying forward the mission he began 30 years ago—providing “The Best Medicine in the Worst Places.”

Happy Birthday, Lawrence. Your legacy lives on.

In the dead of summer, we followed glowing hot footprints across a freshly plowed field. They led us to a massive oak tree, and sure enough, we found him hiding way up high. The FLIR tech really made this one memorable!

Ever wonder about those life-saving helicopters? They're not all the same. Rescue helicopters can land almost anywhere and self-dispatch, while air ambulances have stricter rules and need ground assistance. The key difference? Air ambulances can perform rapid sequence intubation (RSI) with specific drugs, something rescue choppers can't do.

In this demanding line of work, dedicating time to your mental health is crucial. Thankfully, resources like LAPD's behavioral science services offer individual and couples counseling to support officers and their families.

Recruiting and retention are incredibly tough right now. If you're considering law enforcement, know that your expectations will likely be wrong. This career demands you do the right thing for the right reason. It's a labor of love, not for ego or popularity. Don't let negativity deter you if you feel called to serve.

Brian is a young medical professional who had never received formal fi****ms training before attending our Foundational Pistol Course (FPC). Our experienced fi****ms instructors quickly identified that he was cross-eye dominant, which was affecting his accuracy.
After a few simple adjustments to his stance and pistol positioning, Brian was soon shooting smoothly, confidently, and accurately.
The FPC provides students with expert instruction in:
• Handgun safety
• Malfunction and reloading
procedures
• Static and dynamic
marksmanship
• Positional and barricade
shooting
• Emergency trauma care

Our next Foundational Pistol Course is coming up in November.
