Just a gentle reminder 🤍

Life can get busy, overwhelming, and filled with stressors that sometimes make us lose sight of who we are. In the middle of everything, it can be easy to forget your strength, your worth, and just how far you’ve come.

So, take a moment to remind yourself:

✨ You are worthy.
✨ You are strong.
✨ You are brave.
✨ You are enough.

No matter what you may be facing right now, don't forget who you are. Give yourself grace, take things one day at a time, and remember, you are more than the challenges and stressors you are experiencing. 🤍

Stress is a normal part of life, but it doesn't have to control your life. Managing stress doesn't always require making big changes. Often, it's the small, intentional habits we practice consistently that make the biggest difference. Whether it's taking a few deep breaths, moving your body, reaching out to someone you trust, or simply giving yourself permission to rest, every step toward caring for yourself matters. Remember, progress isn't about doing everything perfectly. It's about finding what works for you and giving yourself grace along the way. đź’ś If stress, anxiety, or feeling overwhelmed has become difficult to manage on your own, therapy can provide a safe space to develop healthy coping skills and build resilience.

A lot of anxiety comes from becoming mentally stuck on things that are outside of our control. As humans, it’s natural to worry, overthink, and try to predict or fix outcomes that ultimately aren’t within our power.

For many individuals struggling with anxiety, a significant source of distress is the focus on what might happen, what others are doing, or what cannot be changed. While this is a very common experience, it often keeps us feeling overwhelmed and stuck.

Building awareness of the difference between what is within our control and what is not can be a helpful step in reducing anxiety. When we gently redirect our attention back to what is within our control (our thoughts, actions, boundaries, and responses) we create more space for clarity, grounding, and emotional balance.

It’s not about ignoring what we can’t control, but about learning where to place our energy in a way that supports our well-being.

Have you been experiencing difficult communication within the family unit? Have you been feeling disconnected from one another? Family therapy may be beneficial. Did you know that this is a service I offer at Summit Counseling Services? 🏔️

Family therapy provides a supportive and nonjudgmental space for family members to come together, improve communication, strengthen relationships, and work through challenges as a team.

Family therapy views the family as a system, meaning that when one family member is struggling with mental health concerns, behavioral challenges, life stressors, or major transitions, it can impact the entire family. Likewise, family dynamics can influence each individual's well-being. By exploring these patterns together, families can gain greater understanding, improve communication, and foster healthier interactions.

The goals of family therapy are to strengthen relationships, establish healthy boundaries, and equip families with practical tools to navigate life's challenges together.

Family therapy may be helpful for:
✨ Communication difficulties
✨ Parent-child conflict
✨ Major life transitions or changes
✨ Grief and loss
✨ Behavioral concerns
✨ Divorce or separation
✨ Blended family challenges
✨ Mental health concerns affecting the family system

You don't have to navigate these challenges alone. Healing and growth happen when families work together. đź’ś Currently accepting new clients in Rhode Island and Massachusetts for individual, family, and couples therapy.

I tend to see this a lot when working with clients: the fear or feelings of guilt that come up when disappointing others, especially when needing to cancel plans because they aren’t feeling up to it, are overwhelmed, or are experiencing burnout. So many people have learned to override their own needs in order to avoid letting others down, even when their body and mind are clearly asking for rest. Over time, this can lead to exhaustion, resentment, and feeling disconnected from what they actually need. At Summit Counseling Services, I often explore how difficult it can be to set boundaries, especially when there is a strong internal belief that saying “no” is selfish or will damage relationships. In reality, boundaries are a form of self-respect and emotional regulation. They help us show up more authentically and sustainably in our relationships, rather than from a place of depletion or obligation. I also focus on the importance of the response on the other side of a boundary. When someone sets a limit, it is not rejection—it is communication. There is value in learning to receive someone’s boundary without judgment, understanding that it is not personal, but reflective of their current capacity. Healthy relationships are built on mutual respect, where both people are allowed to have limits and still feel safe, valued, and connected. Boundaries help us show up as our best selves not just for ourselves but for others as well💜

Burnout doesn’t always show up all at once. It can build slowly through long stretches of stress, pressure, and pushing through without enough recovery.

It might look like:
Feeling exhausted even after rest
Losing motivation for things that used to matter
Increased irritability or feeling “on edge”
Trouble concentrating or feeling mentally foggy
Pulling away from people or responsibilities
A sense of just going through the motions

Burnout isn’t a personal failure—it’s often a sign that your mind and body have been under too much for too long without enough support or balance.

Ways to help prevent it:
Pay attention to early signs of overwhelm instead of pushing past them
Build in real rest, not just “time off” filled with more demands
Set small boundaries where you can (even simple ones matter)
Stay connected to people who feel supportive and grounding
Break tasks into manageable steps instead of carrying everything at once
Make space for things that restore you, even in small doses

Healing from burnout often starts with noticing it and allowing yourself to respond differently before you hit empty.
