We made a post a few weeks ago about "TikTok Therapy" versus "Actual Therapy," and this is another area where reels and likes can miss the nuance needed in real healing. Your comfort is important, but friend, your healing is more important. Let us help you as you learn to advocate for yourself, for those you love, and for the world you want.

Rest says: “I need a break so I can return.”

Avoidance says: “If I ignore it long enough, maybe it’ll disappear.”

Avoidance may bring some relief in the moment, but it drains you in the longer term. Rest RESTORES you.

Healing doesn't happen in isolation. 💙

Shelton Walker, LPC, creates a supportive space where clients can process life’s challenges, feel genuinely heard, and move toward meaningful growth and healing.

He also loves working with teens and families to recover the peace and respect that can sometimes get eroded away.

Shelton is currently accepting new clients online and at our office in North Little Rock.

POV: your body is exhausted, but your brain suddenly decides it’s time to replay every conversation you’ve had since 2014. 😅

If you’ve ever lost sleep over “Was that awkward?” or “Why did I say that?” …you’re definitely not alone.

Be gentle with yourself tonight. Your brain is trying to protect you, eeeeeven if it’s being a little dramatic about the whole thing. 💙

A lot of people come to therapy worried they’re “doing it wrong.”

They apologize for needing reassurance.
They get discouraged by slow progress.
They feel ashamed when old patterns show up again.

But healing is rarely linear, quick, or perfectly graceful.

Sometimes progress looks like:

* noticing a pattern sooner
* reacting a little differently
* asking for help instead of shutting down
* being kinder to yourself after a hard day
* trying again

The difficult parts of therapy don’t automatically mean therapy isn’t working. Often, they’re part of the process of real growth.

You do not have to heal "perfectly" to be healing.

The internet: 🚩 “You are surrounded by narcissists!” 🚩

Actual therapy: Humans can be unhealthy, hurtful, emotionally immature, manipulative, overwhelmed, reactive, clumsy…and still not meet criteria for narcissistic personality disorder.

Therapy often involves slowing down long enough to make room for nuance, even when someone genuinely hurt you.

Mental health language can be helpful and empowering. Putting labels on other people is usually the opposite.

(And yes… sometimes someone really *is* toxic.)
