😴 Does your child snore or grind their teeth at night?

‼️Many parents are surprised to learn that snoring, mouth breathing, restless sleep, and teeth grinding are not always “normal childhood habits.” They can be signs that your child is struggling to breathe well during sleep.

🚩 Signs to watch for:
✔️ Snoring or open-mouth sleeping
✔️ Teeth grinding (bruxism)
✔️ Restless sleep or frequent waking
✔️ Daytime fatigue or difficulty focusing
✔️ Narrow jaws or crowded teeth
✔️ ADHD-like symptoms

At Thrive Airway & Tongue Tie Center, we look beyond the teeth to evaluate how breathing, jaw development, tongue function, and sleep all work together.

Early identification can help support healthy growth, better sleep, improved focus, and proper jaw development.

🤔Did you know sugar doesn’t directly cause cavities?

🦠The real culprit is the bacteria in your child’s mouth. When bacteria feed on 🍭sugars and 🍞carbohydrates, they produce acid that weakens tooth enamel. Repeated acid attacks over time can lead to cavities.

❗️That’s why how OFTEN kids snack can be just as important as what they eat!

🦷 Brush twice daily
💧 Drink water between meals
🍎 Limit frequent snacking

Small habits make a big difference for healthy smiles.

At Sunkidz & Thrive, we’re excited to now offer Myofunctional Therapy — a gentle, fun therapy designed to help children develop healthier breathing and oral muscle habits.

Myofunctional therapy can help children who:
✨ Mouth breathe
✨ Snore or sleep restlessly
✨ Have low tongue posture
✨ Struggle with open-mouth posture
✨ Have difficulty focusing or seem tired often

Through targeted exercises, we help support:
✔ Nasal breathing
✔ Proper tongue posture
✔ Better sleep quality
✔ Healthy facial growth & development

Our goal is simple: help kids breathe better so they can thrive. 💚

If you’ve noticed signs of mouth breathing or poor sleep, we’d love to help guide you.

😬Mouth breathing isn’t just a habit… it’s a warning sign 🚨
When kids breathe through their mouth at night, their airway becomes less stable.

👅The tongue drops down instead of supporting the palate → the airway narrows → breathing becomes harder → sleep becomes fragmented.

And that poor sleep can show up as:
😴 Snoring
🛏 Bedwetting
⚡ ADHD-like symptoms
😣 Daytime irritability
😮‍💨 Constant congestion or open-mouth posture

🌱Over time, it can even affect how your child’s face and jaws grow.

💨At Thrive, we don’t just look at teeth — we look at the whole airway.

✅We create a personalized plan that may include myofunctional therapy, early expansion, and collaboration with ENT + other specialists to help your child breathe, sleep, and grow the way they should.

✨ Better breathing = better sleep = better growth
📍If your child is mouth breathing, it’s worth a closer look

⭐️Just completed an incredible Dental Sleep Medicine course with Dr Audrey Yoon and other amazing providers who taught the course— and it completely deepened our passion for what we do every day 🤍

📚So many of the challenges we see in kids — restless sleep, mouth breathing, bedwetting, ADHD-like symptoms — aren’t just “phases.” They’re often signs of an airway that isn’t functioning the way it should.

🌱Growth matters. 💨Breathing matters. 😴Sleep matters.

🦷By guiding jaw development and using early expansion, we’re not just creating space for teeth, we’re creating space for better breathing, deeper sleep, and healthier growth.

🙌🏽This is why we care so much about airway-focused dentistry — because when we help kids breathe better, everything changes.

✅Sometimes it’s not just “fussy feeding.” It’s function.

👅A restricted tongue can make breastfeeding exhausting—for both baby and mom—poor latch, air intake, frustration… it all adds up.

⚡️Using the LightScalpel CO₂ laser, we gently release that restriction—but that’s only part of the story.

🧩The biggest difference comes from working alongside an incredible team of providers—lactation consultants, chiropractors, physical therapists and others —helping baby’s body learn to function the way it was meant to.

🙏🏽Because true success isn’t just the procedure…
it’s what happens after.

🤍Better feeding. Less stress. More connection.

Going to the dentist doesn’t have to be scary. 💙

🔥One of the best ways to prevent dental fear is to start early — we recommend the first visit by age 1 so kids grow up seeing the dentist as a normal, safe place.

👀 How we help kids feel calm:
• Gentle, slow introductions
• Tell–Show–Do so they know what to expect
• Kid-friendly language (no scary words)
• Breaks when they need them
• Lots of praise + encouragement
• Sensory-aware care for anxious kiddos

✅And a big tip for parents:
Try not to “prep” your child with scary words like shot, needle, drill, pain, or it won’t hurt. Even well-meaning reassurance can create fear before they even walk in the door.

🦋A calm first experience sets the tone for a lifetime of confident dental visits. 🦷✨

🤰During pregnancy, the habits you build shape baby’s cavity risk, feeding, and even their early airway development.
✅Here’s what you can start doing now:

1️⃣ Keep your gums healthy
Pregnancy hormones can inflame gums, increasing cavity-causing bacteria.
Fewer bacteria in your mouth = fewer passed to baby later.
2️⃣ Use xylitol gum or mints during pregnancy
Xylitol reduces Streptococcus mutans — the main cavity bacteria moms pass to babies.
Most studies use 5–6 grams of xylitol per day, spaced out (for example: 1 piece of gum, 4 times/day).
This helps lower bacterial load before baby arrives.
3️⃣ Avoid saliva sharing
Babies aren’t born with cavity bacteria.
They get it from their caregivers — usually through spoons, kisses on the mouth, cleaning pacifiers with your mouth, etc.
Minimizing this in the early months protects their oral microbiome.
4️⃣ Get a prenatal dental cleaning
Safe during pregnancy — and reduces inflammation and harmful bacteria.
A cleaner mouth during pregnancy = healthier environment for baby.
5️⃣ Nourish baby’s developing teeth in the womb
Baby teeth begin forming around 6–8 weeks of pregnancy.
Vitamins A, D, K2, calcium, magnesium & omega-3s support stronger enamel and healthier early growth.
6️⃣ Support healthy nasal breathing
Nasal breathing increases nitric oxide & oxygen levels, both important for fetal development.
If you’re congested, use pregnancy-safe nasal hygiene to keep airflow clear.
7️⃣ After birth: use xylitol wipes for baby
Before teeth erupt, you can gently clean baby’s gums with xylitol-infused infant oral wipes.
Most brands are used 1–2 times per day, after feedings, to help reduce bacterial buildup and prep for healthy teeth.
8️⃣ Plan their first dental visit by age 1
Early prevention catches feeding issues, ties, enamel defects, early cavities, and airway concerns before they snowball.

Save this for later 💛
