This patient knew she wanted a comprehensive facial rejuvenation under local anesthesia with oral sedation rather than general anesthesia. After years of researching and waiting for the right surgeon, she made the trip from Florida ready to move forward.

Her surgical plan included:
• Deep plane facelift
• Neck lift
• Upper blepharoplasty to address excess upper eyelid skin
• Lip lift to shorten the distance between the nose and upper lip and restore youthful upper lip show

During surgery, the retaining ligaments that create heaviness, jowls, and neck fullness are released, allowing the deeper tissues to be repositioned upward in a natural, tension free way.

The waiting is over. Today's the day.

Sleeping after a facelift causes more anxiety than it probably should.

Yes, I recommend sleeping with your head elevated to help reduce swelling and speed recovery. A pillow ramp or wedge works great for this.

But if you slide down your pillows, roll onto your side, or wake up in a different position than you intended, you have not ruined your result.

You may notice a little extra swelling on the side you slept on, but that's temporary and improves once you're upright again.

The deep work performed during surgery determines your final result, not whether you slept perfectly every night.

Smoking and ni****ne use do not just affect healing after surgery. They affect the long term quality of your results as well.

For that reason, my patients are required to stop smoking and ni****ne products for a minimum of two to three months before surgery to reduce the risk of wound healing complications.

But what happens if you start smoking again afterwards?

Ni****ne is a vasoconstrictor, meaning it reduces blood flow to the tissues. Over time, this can lead to skin that appears duller, thinner, less vibrant, and more crepey. A facelift can reposition and restore tissue, but the quality of that tissue still matters.

Healthier tissue ages better. Better blood flow supports better skin quality. Choosing not to smoke is one of the most important things you can do to protect both your investment and your long term results.

"Will I feel tugging during my facelift under local anesthesia?" It is one of the most common questions we hear before surgery.

The reality is that most patients feel far less than they expected.

The CURRENT Lift is performed using a specialized combination of local anesthetic and tumescent numbing techniques designed to keep patients comfortable throughout the procedure. Patients should not feel pain, and any sensation of pressure is typically very mild.

Because Dr. Novis performs all of her facelifts under local anesthesia, every aspect of the surgical technique is designed with patient comfort in mind, minimizing tugging, pulling, and pressure during the procedure.

In fact, many patients report feeling little to no tugging at all, and some have very little memory of the procedure afterward.

No general anesthesia. No IV sedation. No drains. Just a carefully designed approach focused on safety, comfort, and natural results.

Do lasers reduce fat in your face?

With all of the discussion around radiofrequency devices and concerns about facial fat loss, it is a question worth asking: do lasers do the same thing? The short answer is no.

Lasers target specific structures in the skin called chromophores. Different lasers target different chromophores depending on the treatment goals. The erbium laser that I use targets water within the skin, allowing treatment to remain focused in the dermal layers where it tightens, resurfaces, and brightens the skin.

Radiofrequency generates heat that spreads through multiple tissue layers. While that heat can stimulate some tightening, it can also affect underlying fat and other supporting structures.

That difference in specificity is one of the reasons I prefer lasers for skin rejuvenation. A targeted treatment gives targeted results.

When your goal is healthier, tighter, brighter skin, preserving facial volume matters just as much as improving skin quality.

What an incredible week exploring the Galápagos Islands and one of the most unique ecosystems on Earth.

From blue footed bo***es with surprisingly strict beauty standards, to fur seals that remind us why volume and smooth skin are signs of youth, every animal seemed to have a lesson to teach.

The Galápagos is a reminder that beauty comes in many forms, and nature almost always gets it right.

Thank you for following along on this adventure with me. Now it's time to trade the islands and wildlife for the operating room back in South Carolina. Until the next adventure!

Today I had the incredible opportunity to see two of the most unique birds in the world sharing the same rock: the Galapagos penguin and the cormorant.

Both are found only here in the Galapagos and are flightless. Yet somehow, they have become two of the most effective hunters in these islands.

The penguins are remarkably fast swimmers, chasing prey through the water at speeds approaching 25–30 mph. The flightless cormorants take a different approach, diving deep beneath the surface to reach fish that many other animals simply cannot access.

Watching them today was a reminder that success doesn't always come from doing what everyone else can do. Sometimes it comes from understanding your strengths, adapting to your environment, and thriving exactly where you are.

Sunscreen may get all the attention, but sunglasses deserve a place in your anti aging routine too.

When you're out in the sun, your natural response is to squint. Over time, those repeated muscle movements around the eyes contribute to deeper crow's feet and those vertical "11" lines between the brows.

Sunglasses do more than protect your vision. They help shield the delicate skin around your eyes from UV damage while reducing the constant squinting that can make expression lines become more etched into the skin over time.

This summer, your anti wrinkle essentials are simple:
• SPF 50
• UV protective sunglasses
• A wide brim hat for extra protection

The amazing frigate bird.

The males have an enormous red pouch beneath their neck that they inflate during mating season to attract a partner.

I was absolutely amazed at just how large these pouches become and how these birds still manage to soar effortlessly through the sky.

So that turkey gobbler neck that everyone complains about? Apparently, in the frigate bird world, that's considered highly attractive.

Beauty standards really are species specific.

The blue footed b***y may be one of the most iconic animals of the Galápagos, and after seeing them in person, it's easy to understand why.

These fascinating birds get their famous bright blue feet from the fish in their diet. The more nutrient rich and antioxidant rich their meals are, the brighter blue their feet become.

And in their world, brighter feet matter. The intensity of that blue color is one of the traits they use when choosing a mate, serving as a signal of health and vitality.

Even nature reminds us that signs of health and vitality have always played a role in attraction.
