The late osteopaths — Still, Sutherland, Becker, Fulford, Upledger — wrote extensively about energy as the next frontier of medicine. They knew something more was possible. They simply did not have Qigong. Dr. Couturier did.⁠

Trained as a certified osteopath in France and England, with over 500 hours of cranial osteopathic as part of her training, she came to the CranioSacral world not as a student but as a peer. For 13 years she worked alongside Dr. John Upledger, teaching assistant to all his courses, one of his busiest and most referred practitioners, present at the last course he ever taught. She received her Craniosacral Diplomate Certification from Dr. Upledger personally in 2004. In 2003, Dr. Upledger invited her to speak at his international conference “Beyond The Dura” about her work integrating CranioSacral Therapy with Medical Qigong and Chinese Energetic Medicine, a formal recognition that what she was developing was something entirely new.⁠

The Journey of Sound: From the Tympanic Membrane to the Cochlea

Every sound you hear from a whisper to a symphony begins its journey at the tympanic membrane (eardrum). When sound waves enter the external auditory canal, they cause the tympanic membrane to vibrate. These vibrations are then transmitted through the three smallest bones in the human body the malleus (hammer), incus (anvil), and stapes (stirrup) collectively known as the ossicular chain.

The ossicles function as a highly efficient mechanical amplifier, increasing the force of sound vibrations while reducing their amplitude. This amplification is essential for overcoming the impedance difference between air in the external ear and the fluid-filled cochlea of the inner ear. The footplate of the stapes pushes against the oval window, generating pressure waves within the cochlear fluids.
Inside the cochlea, these fluid movements stimulate the Organ of Corti, where sensory hair cells convert mechanical vibrations into electrical nerve impulses.

These impulses travel through the cochlear division of the vestibulocochlear nerve (CN VIII) to the brainstem, ascend through the inferior colliculus and medial geniculate nucleus of the thalamus, and finally reach the primary auditory cortex in the temporal lobe, where sound is consciously perceived and interpreted.
