Matt Fosket Counseling LLC

Matt Fosket Counseling LLC I help adults and teens work through trauma, anxiety, and depression with direct, effective therapy. In-person in North Platte + statewide telehealth.

Specializing in EMDR, men’s mental health, first responders, LGBTQIA, and adoption-related concerns. Finding the right therapist matters. You need someone who understands you, respects what you’ve been carrying, and doesn’t waste your time. I offer a grounded, steady approach that’s built on trust, honesty, and real connection. My goal is simple: help you make meaningful progress and understand wh

at’s actually driving your symptoms so you can move forward with clarity. I specialize in trauma recovery and use EMDR therapy as a primary modality, along with IFS, CBT, DBT, and other evidence-based approaches. I work with adults and adolescents facing anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, adoption-related challenges, identity concerns, and behavioral difficulties. My style is calm, direct, and practical. I want you to understand your patterns, what your body is trying to tell you, and what tools will help you get unstuck. I work extensively with men, first responders, and LGBTQIA+ clients. Men, in particular, often carry pressure quietly and wait too long to reach out. Therapy doesn’t have to feel complicated or uncomfortable—it just needs to be honest, respectful, and effective. I create a space where men and adolescents can talk openly, drop the armor, and work on the parts of their life that aren’t working anymore. My approach to therapy is also shaped by my life outside the office. I’m a husband and a parent to both adopted and biological children, including teenagers, and that experience gives me a practical, real-world perspective when working with families. I understand the realities, frustrations, and complexities that come with parenting, especially within adoption and blended family systems. I completed the nationally recognized Training for Adoption Competency (TAC) program through C.A.S.E., which allows me to offer adoption-competent mental health therapy for children, parents, birth parents, and extended family systems. In addition to therapy, I provide clinical supervision for new therapists in Nebraska. I’m committed to helping clinicians develop a strong, ethical, grounded practice while building confidence in their professional identity. I am a National Board Certified Counselor and a Licensed Independent Mental Health Practitioner (LIMHP) in the State of Nebraska. I hold a Master of Arts in Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Chadron State College and a BA in Secondary Education from the University of Nebraska at Kearney. I’m an active member of the American Counseling Association, the Nebraska Counseling Association, and the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA.) I own and operate Matt Fosket Counseling LLC, where I provide mental health therapy, supervision, consultation, and office building management.

🌈 Being an Ally Can Make a Difference

Research consistently shows that feeling accepted and supported is linked to better mental health outcomes for LGBTQIA+ individuals.

While no one person can eliminate the challenges others face, allies can help create environments where people feel safer, valued, and less alone.

Being an ally can look like:

✅ Listening without judgment
✅ Respecting names and pronouns
✅ Speaking up against discrimination
✅ Continuing to learn and grow
✅ Creating spaces where people feel they belong

As we close out Pride Month, let’s remember that acceptance isn’t just kind—it’s good for mental health.

To all the amazing dads out there, whether you're the "Cool Dad" who's always up for an adventure, the "Tough Guy" who teaches us to be strong and resilient, the "Tech Whiz" who shows us how to code and fix our gadgets, the "Funny Guy" who makes us laugh with your silly jokes, the "Laid-Back Dad" who's always relaxed and calm, the "Superhero" who saves the day and keeps us safe, the "Teacher" who guides us through life's lessons, or the "Loving Heart" who shows us unconditional love and support - we appreciate you all!

June is PTSD Awareness Month, a time to increase understanding of trauma and remind those who are struggling that healing is possible.

PTSD can develop after experiencing or witnessing overwhelming events, and its effects can show up in many ways—anxiety, nightmares, irritability, emotional numbness, difficulty trusting others, or feeling constantly on guard. Trauma can affect anyone, and seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness.

As an EMDRIA Certified EMDR Therapist, Matt uses a trauma-focused, evidence-based approach that helps individuals process and heal from distressing experiences that may continue to impact their daily lives. While trauma may become part of your story, it does not have to define your future.

If you or someone you care about is struggling with the effects of trauma, support is available.

🌈 Pride and Mental Health Are More Connected Than You May Think

Mental wellness isn’t just about managing stress or coping with difficult emotions.

It’s also about feeling safe enough to be yourself.

When people feel accepted, supported, and connected, they are more likely to experience a greater sense of belonging, self-worth, and emotional well-being.

For many LGBTQIA+ individuals, Pride Month is more than a celebration. It’s a reminder that authenticity matters. Being seen, respected, and valued for who you are can have a powerful impact on mental health.

Whether you’re celebrating Pride, supporting someone you love, or continuing your own journey of self-acceptance, know this:

✨ You deserve spaces where you don’t have to hide who you are.

At Matt Fosket Counseling, LLC, I believe healing begins when people feel safe, supported, and empowered to live authentically.

🌈 What helps you feel most like yourself?

June is also Men’s Mental Health Month.

Many men are taught to handle stress, anxiety, grief, and difficult emotions on their own. Strength is often measured by how much you can carry without letting anyone see the weight.

But real strength isn’t about carrying everything alone.

Taking care of your mental health is just as important as taking care of your physical health. Whether you’re dealing with stress, burnout, depression, relationship challenges, trauma, or simply feeling overwhelmed, support is available.

This month is a reminder that reaching out, talking about what you’re going through, and asking for help are signs of courage—not weakness.

You don’t have to figure it all out by yourself.

Today, Matt and Maria had the opportunity to participate in the Tyler Vanderheiden Memorial Run alongside members of our families.

A special congratulations goes to Hudson for earning 1st Place in his age division and to Maria for placing 3rd in her age division. We're proud of both of them for their accomplishment and effort.

While it's always fun to celebrate the race itself, the true purpose of this event is much bigger than the finish line. The Tyler Vanderheiden Memorial Run continues to bring our community together to promote mental health awareness, encourage conversations about su***de prevention, and remind people that support and connection matter.

Thank you to the Vanderheiden family, the organizers, volunteers, sponsors, and everyone who participated today. Your involvement helps keep Tyler's legacy alive and strengthens the message that no one has to face life's struggles alone.

We're honored to continue supporting this event as a repeat sponsor and look forward to being part of it again next year.

Today, we remember and honor the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Memorial Day can also bring up grief, reflection, gratitude, or complicated emotions for veterans, military families, and those who have experienced loss. Whatever today feels like for you, your experience matters.

Wishing peace and moments of connection to all who are remembering loved ones today. 🇺🇸
