🍂 Stay Comfortable on Your Feet This Holiday Season
Between festive cooking, shopping, and travel, Thanksgiving can put extra strain on your feet. Here are a few simple tips to keep you pain-free:
1. Choose supportive footwear for long days
Avoid thin, flat shoes while cooking or hosting. A supportive shoe—or even wearing orthotic inserts at home—can prevent arch and heel pain.
2. Stretch before big activity days
A quick morning routine of calf and arch stretches can protect your plantar fascia and Achilles tendon.
3. Manage swelling during travel
Flying or long car rides?
• Flex your feet regularly
• Wear compression socks if you’re prone to swelling
• Stay hydrated
4. Don’t ignore injuries
If you feel sudden pain, swelling, or notice a change in the appearance of your foot or ankle, schedule a visit before holiday activities make things worse.

🧦 Winter Foot Reminders
As colder weather settles in:
• Moisturize daily to prevent cracking
• Inspect feet regularly (especially for patients with diabetes)
• Switch to warm, breathable socks
• Don’t walk barefoot on cold tile—your heels will thank you!

👣 Foot Health & Aging: Tips for Older Adults
Monthly Footcare Bulletin – August 2025 Edition
Your trusted source for keeping you moving, one step at a time.

🧓 Why Foot Health Matters More as You Age
As we grow older, our feet undergo natural changes—skin thins, arches may flatten, and circulation often slows. These changes can lead to foot pain, balance issues, or more serious complications if ignored.
The good news? With the right care, you can stay active, independent, and pain-free.

✅ Common Foot Problems in Older Adults
Here are the most frequent foot health concerns we see in patients over 60:
•Arthritis: Joint stiffness or swelling, especially in toes and ankles
•Corns & Calluses: Due to pressure from bony changes or ill-fitting shoes
•Plantar Fasciitis: Heel pain caused by strained ligaments
•Toenail Issues: Thickening or fungal infections are more common with age
•Neuropathy: Loss of sensation (especially in diabetics) can go unnoticed
•Balance Loss: Weak foot muscles can increase fall risk

🦶 7 Simple Tips for Healthier Feet
1.Check your feet daily
Look for cuts, blisters, swelling, or color changes—especially if you have diabetes.
2.Moisturize—but not between the toes
Dry skin cracks easily. Apply cream to tops and bottoms, avoiding the webbing.
3.Trim nails carefully
Straight across, not too short. Ask for help if you can’t see or reach well.
4.Choose supportive shoes
Look for a firm heel, cushioned sole, and wide toe box. Skip the slippers!
5.Stay active
Walking improves circulation and keeps joints limber.
6.Stretch your feet
Gentle calf and toe stretches reduce cramping and improve flexibility.
7.Get regular foot exams
A podiatrist can catch problems early—before they become serious.

👟 Footwear Tip of the Month
Avoid going barefoot, even at home.
Going without shoes increases the risk of injury, especially if you have reduced sensation or balance issues. Use supportive, non-slip footwear indoors.

🏥 When to Call a Podiatrist
Don’t wait if you notice:
•Persistent pain or swelling
•Numbness, tingling, or burning sensations
•Ingrown toenails or fungal infections
•Wounds that won’t heal
Your feet carry you through life—give them the care they deserve.
