This moment can happen in many ways. Sometimes this moment happens in a birth tub at home, a hospital room, or a birth center made to feel like home. It can also happen in the OR after a cesarean birth. This is birth.

I believe you can feel confident, prepared, and grounded as you step into the forward-moving momentum that will bring you to meet your baby.

What questions do you have about doula services? Let’s talk. I’d love to share how compassionate support and professional guidance can be part of your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience.

Labor is so much more than contractions. It’s a physiologic process involving hormones, the nervous system, instinct, environment, movement, and support. These pieces don’t work independently. They’re all part of the same conversation.

That’s why one of the first layers I focus on is comfort. What helps you feel safe? What helps you settle in? What helps your body regulate?

A room that feels safe. People you trust. Freedom to move. Words that encourage. Comfort measures that work for you. Whether that’s lo-fi downbeat tempos or Bad Bunny playing in the background, or maybe that means twinkle lights and aromatherapy. The space is uniquely yours. A place where you are free to follow your instincts.

This can help create an environment where you feel safe, supported, and ready to follow whatever labor asks of you.

This is something I talk about with the families who hire me as their doula. Together, we look at their desires, their birth location, and what will help the space feel uniquely theirs.

What’s in my doula bag?

One of the questions I get asked often is, “What do I bring to a birth?”

The short answer? A little bit of everything.

Massage tools, a TENS unit, a rebozo, essential oils, warming/cooling tools, affirmation cards, and other comfort measures are all packed and ready to go. But the goal isn’t to use everything.

The goal is to have options.

When you hire me as your doula, we’ll talk about the importance of tiering comfort measures. We don’t throw every tool at labor all at once.

Instead, we intentionally build layers of support. We match the intensity of labor with comfort measures that complement one another, adding and adjusting them as labor progresses.

At the end of the day, the most important things I bring to a birth aren’t in my bag.

They’re my hands, my experience, and my heart for serving families. 🤍

If you’re looking for a birth doula, I’m now booking 2027 due dates. Feel free to reach out, I’d love to connect!

Transition: Let’s Talk About It!

I remember reaching a point in my labor where things started to shift. My midwife looked at me with such steadiness and reminded me near the end of a contraction to, “Blow it away.”

I remember saying, “It’s not going away.”

She knew exactly what that meant. The contractions were beginning to piggyback off each other, and labor was changing. We shifted right along with it.

Years later, I still smile every time I have this moment with a client.

This is one way transition begins to show up. It has a way of building quietly, then suddenly asking more of you.

Blowing through pursed lips, or horse lips, can be a simple way to encourage relaxation in the jaw, face, and pelvic floor.

This video walks you through how and when to use this technique during labor. Sometimes the smallest tools become the most powerful ones.

Knowing when to use a labor position is just as important as knowing how.

Movement is never one-size-fits-all. We look at the whole picture: your baby’s position, how labor is progressing, what you’re feeling, and what your body is telling us in that moment.

That’s why individualized support matters. After supporting births for more than 10 years, I’ve learned that labor isn’t about memorizing positions. It’s about understanding when, why, and how to use them.

If you’re looking for personalized, evidence-informed support throughout your journey, I’d love to connect.

Three births in nine days. 🙌🏽✨

Every family is different.
Every labor is different.
Every birth reaffirms why I answered the call to do this work.

I’m grateful to connect with families in such a sacred way.

Now I get to head home, hug my girls, and refill my own cup before my next on call period.

Curb walking can be a helpful way to encourage baby to engage in early labor, and this video shows you how to do it effectively.

One important thing to remember: if you’re my client and you’re in early labor, I’m more likely to encourage you to rest, hydrate, and nourish your body until labor has your full attention.

If you have to work to keep contractions going, your body may be saying it’s simply not be ready yet. Trying to “make labor happen” can leave you more tired by the time active labor begins.

That said, no two early labors are exactly alike. Every labor unfolds differently, and every family has individual needs. Sometimes movement is exactly what the body needs. Knowing when to encourage movement or rest is part of the individualized, compassionate support I provide as a birth doula.

If this kind of personalized guidance is what you’re looking for, I’d love to connect and chat about how I can support your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey.

It’s been quiet here for a while.

Life asked for my attention in ways I didn’t expect.

I turned my attention to my girls and the people I love most.

Sometimes the work we do changes us. Sometimes it becomes something we quietly carry as we continue to serve.

Through it all, one thing never changed.

My commitment to my family and the families I serve. I’ve remained steady, supporting, educating, and continuing the work that called me here.

I’m grateful for a life that is fulfilling and rewarding in so many ways.

I’m grateful for the encouragement and mentorship that continues to meet me where I am. Anyone who supports me also supports my family, and that is a gift I carry with me.

Behind the scenes, I’ve been creating new resources and refining old ones. I’m looking forward to sharing more with you.

Let’s get back to talking about birth. 🤍
