I catch myself talking to babies and cats in this silly sing-song voice, "who's the sweetest girl in the whole world" voice. For a while I felt kind of silly doing it.

Then I read that it actually has a name (Motherese, or parentese) and there's real research behind why we do it.

Babies can't calm themselves down yet. They borrow that from us. A slow, warm voice does something a flat, normal-adult voice doesn't, it helps steady their heart rate and stress response. It's basically how they learn what safe feels like.

It's also connection. Eye contact, that tone, it all adds up to the same message, said a hundred times a day: I'm here, I see you.

So if you're doing the silly voice too, you're not silly. Keep doing it.
(This is exactly the kind of thing we explore in my Mother Intensive. If you want to know more, send me a DM or check the link in bio.)

Anyone else find themselves talking like this without even meaning to?

Now accepting evaluation referrals.

If you've been wondering whether your child's struggles in school, at home, or socially might have a name — a comprehensive psychological evaluation can give you answers.

At Mindful Psychology & Wellness, I work with children ages 3 and up to evaluate for ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, giftedness, and more. You'll leave with a clear picture of what's going on and what to do next.

New evaluation slots are open now.

"She's too smart to be struggling this much."

If you've heard this from a teacher, or said it to yourself, you might be raising a twice exceptional (2e) child: gifted and navigating something else, like ADHD, a learning difference, autism or anxiety.
Standard school testing often misses this. Giftedness can hide the struggles and the struggles can hide giftedness! Either way, kids fall through the cracks.

If your child's picture doesn't quite add up, that's worth taking seriously. A comprehensive evaluation looks at the whole child and can finally explain what's going on, and what kind of support will actually help.

Many mothers carry an impossible expectation:

"I should always be patient."
"I should never lose my temper."
"I should always know exactly what my child needs."

But secure attachment isn't built through perfection.

It's built through connection, repair, and showing up again and again.

Children do not need perfect mothers. They need mothers who are willing to reconnect after disconnection, repair after mistakes, and model what healthy relationships look like.

One of the most powerful things you can teach your child is that relationships can withstand imperfection.

When you apologize, you teach accountability.

When you regulate yourself, you teach emotional safety.

When you repair, you teach resilience.

The goal was never perfection.

The goal is connection.

What's one thing you wish more mothers understood about "good enough" parenting?

Many mothers discover that the hardest part of parenting isn't their child's behavior. It's the old wounds parenting brings to the surface. Healing those patterns is possible.

Motherhood has a way of bringing our own childhood experiences to the surface.

Many moms come into my office saying things like:
"I don't want to react the way my parents did" or "I know why I'm triggered, but I don't know how to change it."

"I love my children deeply, but parenting is bringing up things I thought I had already worked through."

The reality is that motherhood often activates our own attachment history. Sometimes the hardest part of parenting isn't our child's behavior. It's the old wounds, beliefs, and patterns that get stirred up along the way.

Because of this, I'm excited to offer a new intensive experience:
Becoming the Mother You Needed

This attachment-based intensive is designed for mothers who want to better understand how their own experiences shape their parenting today, identify emotional triggers, strengthen regulation skills, and break generational patterns.

Together we'll explore:
• Your attachment story
• Parenting triggers and emotional reactions
• Re-parenting and self-compassion
• Secure attachment principles
• Practical tools for connection and co-regulation

This is a psychologist-led intensive for mothers who are ready for deeper work than a typical parenting class or weekly therapy session.

If you've ever felt like motherhood is asking you to heal right alongside your children, this may be for you.

Feel free to comment or send me a message if you'd like more information.

Comprehensive psychological assesments for all ages, virtual asessment, telehealth, international adopton assessments, kindergarten readiness evaulations, professional consultation, parent bonding intensive sessions
