Tuesday morning
Sometimes expecting the worst feels like preparation.
If I convince myself something isn’t going to work out, then maybe it won’t hurt as much if it doesn’t.
I’ll be ready.
I’ll have seen it coming.
I’ll be able to say, “I knew it.”
And there’s a strange kind of comfort in that.
But…
At what point does preparing yourself for an ending become rehearsing it?
Because the stories we repeat to ourselves matter.
Say something enough times and it becomes easier to believe.
Believe it long enough and eventually it starts changing the way you show up.
And suddenly the thing you were trying to protect yourself from becomes the thing you’re unconsciously preparing yourself to accept.
There’s nothing wrong with being realistic.
There’s nothing wrong with acknowledging that things don’t always work out the way we hope.
But don’t let self-protection quietly turn into surrender.
Prepare yourself for reality.
Leave room for disappointment.
But leave some room for hope, too.
Be careful rehearsing an ending you don’t actually want.
