We had a blast last weekend at Utah County's Recovery Day!

It’s always a privilege to show up, connect, and celebrate with such an inspiring community. At John Volken Academy, we believe in the power of recovery, resilience, and supporting one another every step of the way.

Thank you to USARA - Utah Support Advocates for Recovery Awareness for putting on such a fantastic event, and to everyone who stopped by to say hello!

Last week, our students took a trip over to Animal Care of Davis County to drop off donations of dog and cat food and take some of the shelter dogs out for a hike.

Many of these animals have had a tough go of life—a feeling that hits close to home for many of our students. But taking the time to show up, walk alongside them, and offer care is a powerful reminder that you can never count anyone out. Given the right support and love, transformation is always possible.

One of our students, Regan, shared what this experience meant to him:

"Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be out on the Service Project today. Being able to serve the community in this way is one of the best ways to show up for the community and the animals. I have a soft spot for dogs, especially those that have had a tough go of it. It made my heart sing to be able to give them an hour of my time and open up the world to them. It also puts me in a place where my mind and body are free to relax and enjoy the moment. I would do something like this every day, had I the opportunity."

Service projects like this allow our students to build connection, step outside of themselves, and experience the simple joy of giving back to those who need it most. Thank you to Animal Care of Davis County for welcoming us!

Last week, our team gathered to cheer on our amazing President, Jaynee Poulson, as she was officially inducted into the 2026 Salt Lake City Titan 100!

Honoring Utah’s top 100 visionary business leaders, this inaugural cohort represents the best of the best across our region. We already know Jaynee is a titan in everything she does—her selfless leadership and vision push us higher every single day!

We couldn't be prouder to stand behind her. Congratulations, Jaynee!

This past weekend, we celebrated a truly special occasion: our very first graduation ceremony at our North Salt Lake campus! It was a beautiful day spent honoring the incredible hard work, resilience, and dedication of 18 outstanding graduates.

We were honored to hear powerful and inspiring words from an amazing lineup of speakers, including members of our current graduating class, board member Jennifer Brown, Chair of the Davis County Commission Lorene Kamalu, one of our past graduates, and dedicated members of our staff.

Moments like this are the heart of why we do what we do. Celebrating the complete, whole-person transformation these men have fought so hard to establish and build makes every single step of the journey worth it. The atmosphere was nothing short of incredible—seeing families come together to cheer on their loved ones, watching current students picture themselves on that stage one day, and feeling the deep community support rallying around our program.

Thank you to everyone who believes in our mission and supports our program. The success of each of these men comes down to the relentless effort they put in every single day and the unwavering community surrounding them.

We caught this incredible rainbow right outside our campus, and it was too good not to share.

In the middle of busy schedules, hard work, and daily routines, it’s so easy to keep your head down and move right past things like this. But recovery teaches us how to slow down, look up, and appreciate the beauty right in front of us.

At the end of the day, it’s often these quiet, simple moments. A sunset, a deep conversation, or a giant rainbow over the house...that really count the most.

Take a breath today and notice the good around you!

Nothing recharges the soul like time spent outdoors!

A group of our guys spent part of last weekend exploring Ogden Canyon and taking in the waterfall.

Getting out to enjoy Utah’s amazing backyard is one of the best ways for our students to clear their minds, build strong friendships, and stay grounded. Experiencing moments like these, surrounded by nature and good company, is what building a full, meaningful life is all about.

Nothing brings the house together like Saturday night karaoke!

There’s an awesome energy in the room when the guys get out of their comfort zone to sing their hearts out. It’s a feeling you really have to be there to experience, but the brotherhood and connection shared can be seen in the photo.

The real question is: Can you guess the most popular song of the night?

Last week, our students attended the monthly Homeless Resource Fair to jump in and serve.

Getting out to this fair every month is something our guys genuinely look forward to. It’s an incredible chance to put values like empathy, leadership, and service into daily practice while helping support local individuals and families in need.

Thank you to everyone who works hard behind the scenes to host this event each month. We are honored to keep showing up and being part of the solution!

Our students had an incredible time playing in the EōS Fitness Do Better 3v3 Basketball Tournament at EōS Fitness in Bountiful this week.

We loved getting out on the court, meeting new faces, and having the chance to share who we are and what we do with our local community. A huge thank you to EōS Fitness for hosting such a fun event and partnering with us to make a positive impact!

We are super excited to announce a 3v3 Basketball Tournament coming up this Wednesday, August 19th from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at EōS Fitness in Bountiful!

This event is part of the EōS Do Better Program, which provides incredible opportunities to support causes that make a meaningful impact right here in our community.

Here are the details:

👥 Format: 3v3 Tournament — Bring your own team, or just show up and we’ll match you with one!

🎟️ Entry Fee: Bring a donation of hygiene products for the John Volken Academy! (Our most needed items right now are body wash, deodorant, and shaving cream).

🆓 Access: No purchase or EōS membership needed to play!

We’ll be there to share a little bit about our mission, hang out, and cheer everyone on. Come out, shoot some hoops, bring a few items to support our guys, and help us make a difference!
