To a child, how food is offered matters just as much as what is on the plate. If there is friction, anxiety, or internal alarm, the body treats food like a threat rather than care.

For speech therapists, OTs, dietitians, and parents alike, shifting our focus to the relational and developmental roots of feeding changes everything.

Join us on July 23rd with Dr. Deborah MacNamara for:
Before the Bite: How Attachment and Emotion Shape the Way Children Receive Food

In this 2-hour intermediate-level live course, you will learn to:
✔️ Understand how attachment and emotion shape feeding.
✔️ Recognize how stress and internal alarm disrupt a child's receptivity to food.
✔️ Identify how to restore the calm, relational conditions that allow kids to eat.

Let's shift the narrative from struggle to connection. Comment ATTACHMENT for more information on this upcoming course!

At the Get Permission Institute, we believe it is our responsibility to seek a deeper understanding of the experiences children and families who have experienced feeding challenges or who have had feeding therapy in their lives. One of the best ways to do this is to listen to those who have lived experiences. In this series, the founders of GPI interview individuals who have experienced feeding differences, mealtime challenges, and/or feeding therapy. These rich conversations help us to better understand the profound impact feeding differences can have on daily life.

In this interview, the GPI team discusses with Yiannis his life experience as a selective eater. At the time of the interview, Yiannis Kanakis is a 29 year old man diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Yiannis describes his lifetime of selective eating experiences from an early age to today. He has remarkable insights to share. Enroll today for FREE and listen to Yiannis' perspective on eating.

Every child is an individual with a completely unique body, nervous system, history, and personality. That’s why rigid, compliance-based feeding programs often fail. In the Get Permission Approach, we adapt our assessment and treatment to fit the exact physical and emotional needs of your unique child.

GPI JUNE COURSE OF THE MONTH!
$45 only for our 2 hour webinar with Laura Hellfeld

This neuroaffirming, lived-experience webinar invites you to understand how Autistic people think, communicate, and experience food. You’ll learn how thought processes, communication, emotions, and the environment shape eating patterns across home, school, and clinical settings. Together, we will look beyond behaviours so you can better understand the ‘why’ behind food choices. You’ll gain practical foundations of care that help you build trust, reduce distress, and create support that truly fits the individual. We will centre Autistic community voices and share what Autistic people want healthcare providers, and the adults around them, to know.

There is no one-size-fits-all timeline for learning to love food. Every child has a unique body and nervous system. When we let the child set the pace, they build authentic confidence, autonomy, and long-term internal motivation. Slow and steady wins the mealtime peace!

Our new clinician program gives you access to Get Permission Institute’s best foundational feeding course AND a YEAR of mentoring, because we feel strongly that all clinicians need both.

Comment START and we will send you the info about our new Jumpstart program. The GPI team collectively has almost 100 years of experience in the field, and we created the program we needed as new grads, but could not find. We are knocking down the barriers to learning.

Families need more well-trained responsive feeding therapists. We know it needs to be affordable to learn and we want to help!
