Hearing Wellness Center Professional Audiology, Hearing Aid, Wax Removal, Hearing Protection Services, and Tinnitus Dr. Kathryn Gerard is a Central Michigan University graduate.

Our story began May of 2004 when Peggy Sass-Simon, M.A.,CCC-A, opened the doors of Hearing Wellness Center with the mission to serve her community's needs regarding their hearing healthcare. She had a drive to be different from her competitors by providing the most up-to-date evidence based practices, while also providing patients with an "at home" feeling. Fast forward to today and the practice i

s one of the most successful and respected practices in West Michigan. It has now grown to open a second location in Shelby, Michigan to serve those who live in an area where board certified audiologists are rare. As of July 2022, a second audiologist, Dr. Kathryn Gerard, Au.D., joined the HWC family. Dr. Gerard started her career with the Cadillac Veterans Affair Hospital in Cadillac, Michigan and has now joined the Hearing Wellness Center team as a clinical audiologist. She is clinically certified to perform comprehensive hearing evaluations, appropriately fit and adjust all major hearing amplification devices, and complete wax removal. Dr. Gerard loves to help members of the West Michigan community discover better hearing through exemplary care and expertise. Dr. Gerard is fluent in American Sign Language and has strong ties to the D/deaf community as she grew up with a sister who is profoundly deaf and that utilizes a cochlear implant. It can be very lonely living with hearing loss. If you notice a friend or loved one is becoming more withdrawn, not participating in conversations or opting out of activities they once enjoyed, a hearing test is a great place to start. It's possible that getting aids or adjusting their current aids correctly can make a world of difference.

Fun Fact Friday: Over exposure to loud music/sounds can damage or destroy the microscopic hair cells in your inner ear, which do not regenerate once they die leading to a permanent decline in your hearing. Your apple and android devices offer built in settings to monitor your risks. Remember, if you cannot hold a conversation over the sound coming through your headphones, its probably TOO loud.

Fun Fact Friday: Did you know that ear wax is naturally antibacterial? That doesn't mean that it's a good idea to let it build up in your ears though! Excessive wax in the ears can trap water and it can block sound. If you need a good cleaning, leave the Windex for windows and let us take care of that wax for you.
