🎯 Standing is a skill—and most people were never taught how to do it well.
Many people stand by “hanging” on their low back, allowing the lumbar spine to rest on itself while the hips drift forward. While this may feel easier in the moment because your muscles don’t have to work as hard, it places increased stress on the joints, discs, ligaments, and surrounding structures of the lower back.
Over time, this habit can contribute to low back pain, stiffness, reduced core activation, balance deficits, and increased wear and tear on the spine. A better standing posture involves keeping your ribs stacked over your pelvis, maintaining a slight core engagement, and allowing your muscles—not your joints—to support your body.
The way you stand for hours each day matters. Small posture changes today can help reduce strain now and support a healthier spine for years to come.
Go to see a PT if you’re unsure whether your standing posture may be contributing to your pain or discomfort. 💪
