Norwalk Community Health Center non-profit Norwalk Community Health Center (NCHC) offers primary care medical services regardless of ability to pay.

Norwalk Community Health Center (NCHC) offers primary care medical services to the residents of Norwalk, CT and Fairfield County, regardless of their ability to pay. These services include adult medicine for patients over the age of eighteen, pediatric services for those up to the age of eighteen, and obstetrics and gynecology for those patients who are pregnant and/or who have women’s health issues, behavioral health for children, adolescents, teens and adults, and pediatric and adult dental care. In addition, NCHC has full-time staff available by appointment to assist with insurance coverage, financial assistance for those without insurance, mental health problems, and those challenged by their life situations. NCHC opened its doors in April 1999 in a 10,000 square foot building on Water Street, in South Norwalk. Today the health center is located in a state-of-the are facility at 120 Connecticut Avenue. With over 24,500 square feet, NCHC can meet the needs any low income resident in Norwalk. In November 2020 NCHC opened a second site at Smilow Life Center, 55 Chestnut St in So.Norwalk. NCHC also breaks down barriers to care with its Medical Mobile Unit. NCHC takes care of 13,000 Norwalk residents, and provides over 50,000 medical office visits every year. Transportation to and from the health center is free for qualified individuals and families. NCHC uses electronic health records in all departments, and works closely with the Information Technology Department of Norwalk Hospital to continually expand the flow of data from the hospital to individual patient records at the health center. The results are rapid turnaround and availability of test results, perfect legibility, no lost records, and greatly reduced paperwork. NCHC staffs its clinical departments with physicians, nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, and internal medicine residents (adult medicine only). All are under the clinical direction of the Chief Medical Officer – Djana Harp, MD, MBA,who works with the clinical departments to ensure the highest standards of care for all patients.

From Mayor Barbara Smyth: I have been made aware of reports of federal immigration enforcement activity in and around Norwalk today. I understand that this news may cause fear and uncertainty for members of our community, particularly for immigrant families who may be directly or indirectly impacted.

Let me be clear: Norwalk is a city that welcomes and values all of our residents, regardless of immigration status. Our immigrant communities are an important part of the fabric of Norwalk, and no one should feel alone or without support during this difficult time.

Federal immigration enforcement is the responsibility of the federal government. The City of Norwalk and the Norwalk Police Department are separate from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and our local government does not control federal immigration enforcement activities. The actions of the officers of the Norwalk Police Department are aligned with the TRUST Act of the State of Connecticut, which prohibits cooperation or the sharing of any intelligence or information for Immigration enforcement operations.

At the same time, we know that the presence of federal agents can create significant anxiety for families. It is critical that everyone understand their rights, regardless of immigration status. I encourage anyone who has questions or concerns to seek information from a trusted legal or community organization rather than relying on rumors or misinformation.
