A $25 bottle.

For a baby born with cleft, it’s can be the difference between feeding and not.

Most babies with cleft can’t use a standard bottle. They need specialized ones, designed to help them safely get the nutrition they need.

In many of the communities we serve, these bottles aren’t available. That’s why we provide them for our patients at no cost.

$25 a month puts one specialized bottle in the hands of a family, and gives a baby the chance to grow strong enough for surgery.

Many families don’t know what a cleft lip means until they are living it.

They don’t know that feeding a newborn with a cleft requires a completely different approach, or that a single surgery is often just the beginning of a long journey. In those early days, they are left wondering how this happened, and what comes next.

Scarlett’s mom learned the way so many mothers do: by doing.

While Scarlett’s surgery is a beautiful milestone, it is only one chapter. Her story, and her care, continues.

Help more families find this path. 🤍

For most of the world, access to cleft care still depends on where you’re born.

In northern Peru, we’ve spent 24 years working to change that, alongside EsSalud and the team at Hospital Virgen de la Puerta.

What began as visiting programs has become something closer to infrastructure: local surgeons, dentists, and specialists who now lead much of the work, a hospital that plans for our return, and a region that increasingly treats comprehensive cleft care as something families can count on.

This year, the work was recognized by the regional government of La Libertad — a sign the system itself is taking hold.

Cleft care built where the children are, and carried on by the people who live there. That’s the whole idea.

Behind every outcome, there are women.

Showing up. Staying late. Holding it together.

For everything you carry—thank you.

Happy Mother’s Day.

A cleft is treatable. What changes the outcome is where you’re born.

In one country, a newborn meets a feeding specialist in the first week. In another, the family is sent home to figure it out.

The surgery is the visible part. The years around it — nutrition, speech, follow-up — are what decide how a child grows up.

That’s the gap worth closing.

A child born with cleft doesn’t need one surgery.
They need a system that shows up—again and again.

This May, we’re back in Trujillo.

Not for a moment. For the long term.

Together with EsSalud - Red Asistencial La Libertad and Club de Leones Trujillo Las Palmeras del Golf, we’re providing cleft surgeries as part of something bigger—comprehensive care that supports how a child eats, speaks, grows, and belongs.

This is what it looks like to build real access.

Most people think cleft is a cosmetic condition. A surgery, a scar, done.

Eythan’s first months looked nothing like that.

Born in February 2025 in Nobol, Ecuador, he was the first in his family with a cleft lip and palate. What most families don’t know until they’re living it — cleft affects feeding at its most basic level. The gap in the palate makes suction nearly impossible. Without the right support, malnutrition becomes a very real risk.

That’s not a rare edge case. That’s cleft.

Real care means surgeons, nutritionists, speech therapists — a coordinated team over months and sometimes years. By the time that support reached Eythan at 2.5 months old, his nutrition was critical.

Month by month, things changed. And in March 2026, he received his first cleft lip repair surgery.

When Denisse watched her son come out of surgery, she felt something she hadn’t let herself feel in months. Relief.

Eythan is recovering well, with his palate surgery still ahead. Behind every repaired smile is a team, a family, and a community that refused to look away. That’s you.

Meet Eythan. 🤍

💙🧡💛 ANGELA 💙🧡💛

Her grandmother once told her she would give birth to a warrior princess.

But when baby Angela was born with a severe bilateral cleft lip and palate, the first moments were heartbreaking. Hospital staff wouldn’t allow her mother to see her newborn for two days.

Months of failed surgeries followed.

Then, by chance, her mother met someone in a hospital elevator who told her about Global Smile Foundation.

Angela’s case was incredibly complex — almost no central lip tissue remained. But our team carefully rebuilt what others thought couldn’t be repaired.

The result is extraordinary.

Today, that warrior princess is beginning life with the smile she always deserved. 💙
