Breastfeeding for a year is no small thing.
It can take around 1,500–2,000 hours across 12 months. That’s a full-time job.

And that milk? It’s packed with antibodies, immune cells, growth factors - living, adaptive protection designed specifically for your baby.

So if you feel tired and your body feels like it’s constantly “on”…

It’s because it is.

Your body is WORKING.

And if you’re thinking: “I really want this to work for me…”

Preparation changes outcomes.

I know I’m not overdue yet - but I swear when you add in IVF, you feel like you’ve been pregnant forever!!

Also, even as a midwife, every single braxton hicks I get or ANY symptom tbh, I wonder…. Is this labour??? 🤣🤣

I even googled earlier, is waking up with a sore throat a sign of labour. HAHA.

But no, I’m just mr bean on the side of the road waiting for it all to start.

I shared this in my story and got so many DM’s about Mums feeling the same that this needed to go on the grid!!

I don’t think we talk enough about these feelings that we might feel are “wrong” or we shouldn’t feel.

But in reality, ANY feelings we feel as new and prospective Mums are allowed!!!

We are PRIMED to protect our young fiercely and that’s what these feelings are tethered to.

So, set those boundaries with people if you don’t want to your baby to be held rather than suffer the emotional torture!

Pregnancy has humbled me.

This time round, I spent the first five months bedbound with sickness. Just getting through the day felt hard enough, never mind eating perfectly or taking supplements.

One of the things that caused me the most anxiety was wondering whether I was getting enough nutrients for my baby.

I tried several pregnancy vitamins and struggled with all of them. As soon as the tablet hit my tongue, I would start gagging.

When I asked you guys which pregnancy vitamins you’d actually managed to tolerate through severe sickness, one name kept coming up again and again:

What I personally liked was that they’re capsules, so if swallowing tablets feels impossible, you can open them and sprinkle the contents onto food.

I also liked that they’re designed for different stages of pregnancy. Your nutritional needs at 6 weeks aren’t the same as they are at 36 weeks, so it makes sense that your supplements shouldn’t stay the same either.

No supplement can replace a balanced diet, and every pregnancy is different. But finding something I could actually tolerate felt like a huge relief during a really difficult few months.

This post reflects my personal experience and is not medical advice. Always speak to your healthcare professional if you have questions about supplements during pregnancy.

Queens, we’re back with another episode of the home birth series 🤍

And today we’re talking all things primrose oil 👶🏻✨

I used this in the lead-up to my birth with Ophelia and because I’m hoping for another positive home birth experience this time round, I’m repeating the exact same birth prep again.

Of course, every pregnancy and body is different, so always do your own research and speak with your midwife before trying anything new.

Comment “primrose” if you want to read the research on this.
