π Reading takes more than just seeing the words!
Several visual skills have to work together to make reading comfortable and efficient:
π Saccades β Quick, accurate eye movements that allow the eyes to jump from one word to the next.
π― Fixation β The ability to keep the eyes steady on a word or letter long enough to process what is being seen.
β‘οΈ Tracking β The ability to smoothly follow along a line of print without losing place.
π Accommodation β The focusing system that keeps words clear and helps the eyes maintain focus during close work.
π€ Convergence β The ability of both eyes to turn inward and work together when reading up close.
When one or more of these skills is difficult, reading may feel slower, more tiring, or require extra effortβeven when eyesight is 20/20.
