The study analyzed data from almost 𝟯𝟬𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 in a UK Biobank over a 𝟭𝟬-𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱. It compared continuous users to participants who had never used these cholesterol-lowering meds. In the continuous users, even after adjusting for other variables, the study found a 𝟳𝟯% 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘀 in arms and legs and a 𝟮𝟱% 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗴𝗿𝗶𝗽 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵 over time.

𝗕𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗼𝗺 𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗲:

If possible, use 𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗲 to regulate cholesterol.

Know your BP numbers!

Scary statistics:

More than 50% of Americans with high blood pressure are unaware their pressure is high.

More than two thirds of those on treatment for hypertension have blood pressure that remains uncontrolled. (This according to a recent study published in JAMA Network Open.)

Jot down your blood pressure when you have it taken at your doctor's office. If it's above 120/80, consider getting a good quality BP cuff (Omron and A&D Medical upper arm cuffs are highly rated) to monitor your BP at home.

Research presented at the 2024 European Society of Cardiology Congress followed more than 𝟵𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 𝗽𝗲𝗼𝗽𝗹𝗲 in the UK over 𝟭𝟰 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 and found that those patients who had daily sleep deficit (defined as fewer than 7 hours of sleep a night), had 𝟮𝟬% 𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗱 of heart disease if they 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 for that sleep deficit on their days off.

𝗕𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗼𝗺 𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲: if you can't get at least 7 hours of sleep a night on a 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 basis, at least allow for a 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗶𝗲-𝗶𝗻 to catch up!
