Let's talk about something many women experience but few feel comfortable discussing: pelvic organ prolapse.

Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) occurs when the bladder, uterus, or re**um descends from its normal position due to weakened pelvic floor muscles, fascia, and ligaments. It's a surprisingly common condition — studies estimate that a significant percentage of women will show some degree of prolapse on a clinical exam, even if they don't report noticeable symptoms. Risk increases with vaginal childbirth, pelvic surgery, menopause, and age, and incidence rises substantially in the years following menopause.

When symptoms do appear, they often include a sensation of vaginal pressure or bulging, urinary or bowel changes, and discomfort during daily activities or intimacy. Many women assume this is simply something to tolerate — it isn't.

Pelvic floor physical therapy is a evidence-supported, conservative approach to managing prolapse symptoms. Through targeted muscle training, postural and breathing strategies, and individualized care, many women experience meaningful improvement in symptoms and quality of life — with or without additional interventions like a pessary.

At our clinic in downtown Manhattan, we specialize in evaluating and treating pelvic organ prolapse with a personalized, evidence-based approach. If you've been experiencing symptoms, or simply have questions, we're here to help. Send us a message or give us a call to learn more.

Have you heard of SoftWave (shockwave) therapy? If you're dealing with pain that hasn't budged despite rest, stretching, or other treatments, this might be worth exploring.

SoftWave is a non-invasive treatment that uses focused acoustic shockwaves to stimulate the body's natural healing response in injured or painful tissue. By increasing blood flow to the area and triggering cellular repair processes, it can help reduce pain, decrease inflammation, and support tissue regeneration over time.

It's often used for chronic conditions like plantar fasciitis, tendon pain, and joint issues that haven't fully responded to more conservative treatments. Because it's non-invasive, there's no needles, no medication, and no real downtime — making it an appealing option for patients who want to avoid more invasive interventions.

That said, SoftWave works best as part of a broader, individualized treatment plan rather than a stand-alone fix. At our clinic, we incorporate it alongside skilled physical therapy to address both the symptoms and the underlying movement patterns contributing to your pain.

Curious whether SoftWave could be a good fit for what you're dealing with? Schedule your appointment (link in comments)

Three cancers worth knowing about:

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men. While advanced-stage disease is more serious, cancer caught at an early, localized stage has survival rates approaching 100%. Routine screening conversations with your doctor, especially after age 50 (or earlier with risk factors), are key.

Colorectal cancer is also highly treatable when detected early, which is why screening guidelines now recommend starting earlier than they once did, especially given rising rates among younger adults.

Testicular cancer is far less common than prostate or colorectal cancer, but it's one of the most important to know about for men in their 20s and 30s, since it's most frequently diagnosed in younger men. The encouraging news: it's also one of the most curable cancers in oncology, with excellent long-term outcomes even when treatment is required.

The takeaway across all three? Early detection makes a meaningful difference in outcomes.

At our downtown Manhattan clinic, we work with men managing pelvic floor health before, during, and after cancer treatment — supporting continence, recovery, and quality of life throughout the process.

If you have questions about pelvic floor therapy and men's cancer recovery, send us a message — we're here to help.

If you or someone you know is managing pelvic organ prolapse, this one's worth a read. 👇

Pessaries — small, medical-grade silicone devices fitted internally — are one of the most underutilized conservative options in pelvic health care. They're non-surgical, reversible, and can be highly effective at supporting pr*****ed organs and reducing stress urinary incontinence.

Research shows that pelvic floor muscle training on its own leads to meaningful improvements in symptoms and quality of life. When paired with a pessary, the goal is to address both the structural support the body needs and the neuromuscular strength that helps maintain it long-term.

Our team works with patients across all stages of prolapse — from early symptoms to more significant changes — to develop individualized, evidence-based plans.

We've just published a new blog on everything you need to know about pessaries and how they fit into a pelvic floor rehabilitation program. Head to the link below to read more.

For patients managing pelvic organ prolapse, a vaginal pessary can be a valuable part of a conservative management plan.

🫁 Are you actually breathing correctly?

Most of us breathe with our chest — but your body was designed to breathe with your belly.

Diaphragmatic breathing (belly breathing) uses your primary breathing muscle to fully expand your lungs. The result?

✅ Less stress — it calms your nervous system & lowers cortisol
✅ Better oxygen flow — maximises every breath you take
✅ Less tension — relieves strain on your neck & shoulder muscles
✅ Symptom relief — helps with anxiety, poor sleep, chronic pain & COPD

Try it now: place one hand on your chest, one on your belly. Breathe in slowly — your belly should rise first. 🌬️

Your breath is one of the most powerful tools you have. Use it. 💙

Pelvic organ prolapse is more common than most women know — and far more treatable than many assume. 💛

It happens when the uterus, bladder, or re**um shifts downward due to weakened pelvic floor muscles — often after childbirth, hormonal changes, or simply over time. If you've been feeling pelvic pressure, bladder leaks, or discomfort you can't quite explain, you're not alone.

The good news? You have options.

For many women, specialized pelvic floor physical therapy is all that's needed — think targeted muscle training, biofeedback, and hands-on manual therapy. Others find relief with a vaginal pessary, a small fitted device that provides support without surgery. And when surgery is the right call, today's minimally invasive procedures mean faster recovery and excellent outcomes.

There's no one-size-fits-all answer here. The right path depends on your body, your symptoms, and your life — and we'll help you find it. 🙏

If any of this resonates, your first step is a pelvic floor evaluation. We're right here in downtown Manhattan, and we'd love to be part of your care.
