His iron went up. The supplement worked!! Everyone moved on.

Nobody asked why a healthy man in his fifties needed iron in the first place.

That question is the one that mattered. When he finally answered it, it led to a stage IV colon cancer diagnosis — four weeks before he started chemo.

Iron deficiency isn’t a diagnosis. It’s a clue. Most people with low iron don’t have cancer. But unexplained iron deficiency, especially in men and postmenopausal women, deserves an answer, not just a prescription.

Before you replace what’s low, get curious about why it’s low.

Your iron panel came back "normal." So why do you still feel like this?

Most people have only ever had one iron test — a CBC. It can tell you if you're anemic. It often can't tell you if your reserves are already running low

There's a test almost nobody runs, and it might be the missing piece behind your fatigue, your hair loss, your brain fog.

Swipe through to see what your iron panel should actually include — and why "in range" doesn't always mean optimal for you.

Save this one for your next appointment.

Think of ferritin like your savings account, and iron like your checking account.

You can have money in checking and still have an empty savings account.

That’s exactly what happens with a lot of women. Day-to-day iron looks fine on paper. But their reserves — their ferritin — have been quietly drained for years. Heavy periods, pregnancy, low absorption... and nobody ever checked the balance.

Most labs call anything above 12–15 “normal.” But symptoms like fatigue, hair loss, and brain fog often show up long before that.

Your symptoms are data. They’re not random.

“I’m not choosing a political side. I’m choosing the side of the patient.”

If someone tells me their health changed after COVID, I will listen.

If someone tells me their health changed after a vaccine, I will listen.

Listening does not automatically prove causation. It means we are willing to begin the investigation.

The body doesn’t care about political arguments. It wants to heal.

My responsibility is to look at the human being in front of me, understand what changed, and keep asking questions when the easy answers aren’t enough.
