There are a few simple changes to your daily routines that could help your child tell you what they want to eat, what song they want to listen to or who they want to play with. You don’t have to buy new toys or books. You just need to know how to use the things you already have to encourage communication. Wondering how? Play-based therapy is different. We don’t expect kids to sit still. We don’t care if therapy is done at the table. We don’t need a child to make eye contact to know they’re listening. We use a child’s interests to teach them new skills. We build on their strengths and celebrate the small wins. We foster internal motivation through joy.
