Getting a good night's rest is part of getting better.

At Martha's Vineyard Hospital, we believe that healing happens around the clock, which is why we are proud to have introduced our Quiet at Night program for our patients.

Every patient now has access to a personal sleep menu designed to create the most restful environment possible during their stay. From eye masks and earplugs to extra pillows and blankets, dimmed lights, decaf tea, a light snack, and even a coloring or activity sheet to help quiet the mind before bed, we have thought of everything so our patients do not have to.

Because compassionate care means taking care of the whole person, including how well they sleep.

This week we honor our EMS team, the first responders who answer the call no matter the hour, the weather, or the circumstance.

Working as an EMT or paramedic on an island presents unique challenges that most first responders never face. There are no neighboring towns to pull resources from, no quick highway route to a trauma center, and during the summer months, a population that can exceed 100,000 people depending on a small, dedicated team.

Our EMS professionals handle it all with professionalism, courage, and deep care for this community.

Thank you for being the first line of care for all of us.

Every second counts when it comes to strokes. Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death in the United States and a leading cause of long term disability, but up to 80 percent of strokes are preventable.

Knowing the warning signs can be the difference between full recovery and lasting damage.

Remember FAST: Face drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulty, Time to call 911. The sooner treatment begins, the better the outcome.

Our clinical team at MVH is trained and ready around the clock. Share this with someone you love because knowing the signs could save a life.

To understand strokes a bit more, we’ve put together a quick video with all the info you need: http://spklr.io/6184EzSAE

This is Ryn Gluckman, RN, and she is exactly the kind of nurse that makes Martha's Vineyard Hospital the place it is.

Working in our Emergency Department, Ryn shows up every shift ready to meet whatever comes through our doors with skill, calm, and heart.

During Nurses Week, we want to take a moment to recognize not just Ryn, but every nurse on our team who gives so much of themselves to the patients and families of this island community.

Nursing is not just a profession. It is a calling. And we are endlessly grateful for the people who answer it here at MVH every single day. Thank you, Ryn, and thank you to all of our incredible nurses.

This week, Aubrey Ryan, PA-C, from our Emergency Department, spoke to CNN to discuss alpha-gal syndrome, tickborne illness concerns on Martha’s Vineyard, and the importance of our ongoing first-of-its-kind research study focused on tick-related health impacts in our community.

We’re proud to support conversations that raise awareness, advance research, and help educate both Islanders and visitors about staying safe and informed.

This week we are celebrating the nurses who show up every single day with skill, compassion, and heart.

Nursing is one of the most demanding and most meaningful professions in the world, and at MVH, our nurses do it while serving an island community that depends on them year round and especially in the busy summer months when our population swells. They work holidays, overnight shifts, and some of the hardest moments of people's lives without missing a beat. We are endlessly grateful.

Listen in as Latonia James, RN, shares why she loves working at MVH.

Good sleep is not a luxury, it is a health essential.

This Better Sleep Month, our team wants to remind our community that adults need between seven and nine hours of quality sleep each night to support heart health, immune function, mental clarity, and overall wellbeing.

Poor sleep has been linked to increased risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, and depression. Small changes like keeping a consistent bedtime, limiting screen time before bed, and avoiding caffeine in the afternoon can make a meaningful difference.

Ask your MVH provider about our sleep study services and how we can help you wake up feeling your best.
