When one chapter closes, another begins! 📖 Last week, our interns and counselors came together to support our incredible campers during Adventure Camp. Our counselors worked excitedly alongside our kiddos, building up their bravery to tackle new and sometimes challenging tasks. From prepping for exposure sessions out in the community to those big "brave" moments, Adventure Camp was filled with joy, laughter, and even a proud tears.

Our interns, Ivie and Dalia, also jumped right into the fun as counselors on some days! When they weren’t on the front lines, they played a vital role behind the scenes, ensuring every need was met for our campers and their families. As the week wrapped up, our team reflected on the long journey of AC from field trips with animals to successfully navigating a surprise tornado warning and setting up amid summer storms! 🐾🌪️

While Adventure Camp was a success, it’s bittersweet to say goodbye as Ivie and Dalia’s journey at ATSA comes to an end. We are so proud of them as they prepare for their next steps! Ivie plans to become an English and reading tutor in Tucson while preparing for graduate school and research opportunities. Dalia is excited to continue her clinical psychology research in Massachusetts and is looking forward to studying abroad this spring to explore psychology in other cultures. We can't wait to see the impact they continue to make in the community! 🎓💙

Social Exposure Group, a medical Scavenger Hunt, TODAY!

This unique Social Exposure Group, guided by a therapist, helps your child practice tolerating anxiety and build confidence through a fun, structured scavenger hunt. Since many children with Selective Mutism and other anxiety disorders experience high levels of fear when attending doctor's appointments, the use of a hospital setting will facilitate positive learning experiences in a medical environment through fun activities and interactions with supportive staff. Along the way, your child will practice generalizing speaking to different hospital locations and staff, initiating conversation with peers and adults, and engaging with peers in a fun and supportive environment. The experience will end with a surprise prize from ATSA. Join us on Thursday (8/6) so your child can use their brave while having fun and being supported by those around them.

Reminder: Register Now for our Medical Scavenger Hunt Social Exposure Group on Thursday!

For children with anxiety, a trip to the doctor may lead to strong feelings of fear and worry that make these appointments feel entirely unapproachable for both kiddos and their parents. Having the opportunity to practice using their brave in a medical setting with the inclusion of exciting adventures and prizes allows children to develop positive associations with this environment and helps them learn they are capable of handling the range of difficult thoughts and emotions that they may experience.
