On August 21, National Senior Citizens Day recognizes the achievements of our nation's older adults. The day provides an opportunity to show our appreciation for their dedication, accomplishments, and the services they give throughout their lives. According to a recent census, 47 million seniors live in the United States. By 2060, that number will nearly double!! The professionals at The Genesis Therapy Center encourage you to spend time with the senior citizens you know. Let them know they are appreciated and loved. It’s also a good day to volunteer at a retirement home nearby. If anything, share your smile with those who may not otherwise get a visitor today.

The Genesis Therapy Center is a well-established, not-for-profit counseling center that offers collaborative, diverse, and professional services. With 5 locations in Chicago, we have been serving the community for nearly 40 years. For more information about our services, visit www.GenesisTherapy.org or call 708-535-7320.

Designated by the UN in 2008, World Humanitarian Day honors humanitarian workers who have lost their lives or been injured in the course of their work and recognizes the ongoing efforts of humanitarian staff worldwide. This day also pays tribute to the people who are working for the welfare of humanity. This year’s theme is associated with child upbringing: “It takes a village,” from the English idiom “It takes a village to raise a child.” As a little child needs utmost effort and care to be brought up, the service of humanity also requires the entire world to share its role. This slogan also portrays the world as a “Global Village” and us humans as its inhabitants.

The professionals at The Genesis Therapy Center urge all to take part in the service of humanity and raise their voices in appreciation of humanitarian workers. We are a well-established not-for-profit counseling center that has provided professional services in Chicagoland for nearly 40 years. For more information about our services, visit www.GenesisTherapy.org or call 708-535-7320.

It’s back-to-school time, and according to several studies and reports, teaching is one of the most stressful jobs in the country. One survey found that 61% of teachers said their jobs were always or often stressful—more than double the rate of non-teaching working adults. Moreover, 58% said they had poor mental health due to stress levels. And that was before the COVID-19 pandemic even hit! Since then, teachers’ mental health has worsened.

If you’re feeling tired and disengaged, there’s a good chance it’s related to trauma, secondary traumatic stress, and/or “battle fatigue.” Teachers often focus on caring for and supporting others, but without prioritizing their own well-being, those stress levels aren’t alleviated. Your mental health isn’t only important to you—teacher wellness is also linked to stability in schools and student achievement. If you’re a teacher seeking additional support, please visit GenesisTherapy.org or call 708-535-7230. -care

Back-to-school season is an exciting time, but it can also be nerve-racking, especially for parents. Being mindful of how to support your own mental well-being at this time of year can go a long way to making the experience smoother for your family.

The professionals at The Genesis Therapy Center would like to offer you some strategies for the upcoming school year. First and foremost, it’s essential to establish a routine for your children to prepare them for school. It will also be beneficial to create a checklist of tasks to complete in preparation for the school year. Consider choosing a day that helps you prepare your child for the week. This may include taking time to review your child’s school-related emails. Finally, to prevent stress, incorporate breathing exercises and meditation into your schedule to keep you balanced. If you’re a parent seeking additional support, please visit GenesisTherapy.org or call 708-535-7230.

Today, teachers' roles are expanding to include more duties and responsibilities than ever before, including building emotionally strong and healthy students. However, society often neglects to address or even discuss the mental and emotional well-being of teachers themselves. The professionals at The Genesis Therapy Center want to provide some mental health tips for teachers.

First, find healthy coping strategies to manage stress, such as incorporating breathing exercises, meditation, or desk stretches. We know you’re busy, but be sure to take the necessary breaks and lunches, and set up time during the week for yourself. Creating a morning routine can also help, but most of all, be prepared! If you’re a teacher who’d like some additional help, visit GenesisTherapy.org or call 708-535-7230.
