Here is an example of some of the cognitive activities we do in memory care! In this video, the resident is taking images of different objects and sorting them into different groups; food, animal, transportation, and tools. This activity helps stimulate the brain using memory functions (identifying the item), and critical thinking (placing the item where it fits). When we do activities like this, it is important to gently guide the resident through questions so their mind is actively trying to problem solve. If they get stuck on an item, just move on and revisit later. Our residents love when we do this activity and it is a fun way to engage with them while also doing important cognitive retainment!
