Shellfish allergy is ONE food allergy that can first appear in adulthood, which is why new or repeated reactions shouldn’t automatically be brushed off as a coincidence.

If you’re noticing a pattern of symptoms after eating shrimp, crab, lobster, or other shellfish, an allergist can help determine what’s actually causing the reaction and what you need to avoid moving forward.

Don’t keep testing the theory at dinner. 😉 Come get real answers! ⬇️

The internet may be onto something... but it’s not the whole story. 🦟

The original Jergens Cherry Almond lotion contains a few ingredients that have been studied for their potential mosquito-repelling properties. But that doesn’t mean it’s been proven to work as an effective insect repellent.

If you notice it helps, great! But if you’re trying to avoid mosquito bites, especially if you have large reactions like Skeeter Syndrome, don’t rely on lotion alone.

Stick with EPA-approved insect repellents, which have strong evidence behind them, and consider the viral hack a bonus rather than your primary protection.

Have you tried the Jergens hack? Did it work for you? 👇

The Michigan Cyclospora outbreak is a great reminder that medication allergy labels matter.

The preferred treatment for Cyclospora is Bactrim, but many people avoid it because they’ve been told they’re allergic to sulfa antibiotics—sometimes based on a reaction that happened years ago.

Just like penicillin, many reported sulfa allergies deserve a second look. If your reaction happened more than five years ago, it may be worth discussing an allergy evaluation with an allergist.

Knowing whether you’re truly allergic can help ensure you have access to the safest and most effective medications when you need them.

If you’ve been told you’re allergic to sulfa antibiotics, schedule a consultation with our office to discuss whether an allergy evaluation is right for you.

You’ve probably seen the headlines about Cyclospora. Here’s what you need to know. 👇

Cyclospora is an intestinal parasite that has been linked to cases here in Michigan and across the U.S. It’s most commonly spread through contaminated fresh produce or water, not from person to person.

If you’re immunocompromised, consider cooking produce thoroughly during the outbreak to help reduce your risk.

If you develop persistent watery diarrhea, don’t ignore it. Contact your primary care physician to discuss testing. Confirming cases not only helps you get the right treatment, but also helps public health officials track the outbreak.

Prednisone can be an incredibly effective medication when you need it. But it should be a rescue treatment, not your long-term plan.

If you’re needing prednisone over and over again for your allergies or asthma, that’s a sign we need to take a closer look at what’s driving your symptoms.

Frequent courses of prednisone can increase the risk of side effects like:
• Weight gain
• Diabetes
• Weak bones
• Cataracts
• Increased risk of infections

Our goal isn’t just to treat flare-ups, it’s to help prevent them.

If you keep needing prednisone, schedule a consultation with our office. There may be better long-term treatment options to help keep your symptoms under control.

For some people, mosquito bites trigger a large local allergic reaction called Skeeter Syndrome, causing significant swelling, redness, warmth, and discomfort that can easily be mistaken for an infection.

The good news? There are ways to help prevent these reactions and manage your symptoms.

If you or your child consistently has unusually large reactions to mosquito bites, don’t assume it’s “just how your body reacts.” An allergist can help determine what’s going on and discuss treatment options.
