Adjusting isn’t just for humans! Here’s Dr. Jenn’s dog Yarra, getting palpated - the first step prior to adjusting where the doc feels how your joints are moving, and checks for area that aren’t moving as well as those nearby.
Often times when we find a joint that is blocked/restricted in mobility, that spot also feels tender to you. This is due to irritation if the nerve that supplies the joint capsule.
Here, the doc finds a tender spot on Yarra, that matches with her restricted neck movement recently. Yarra can’t tell us it’s tender, but one moment she is enjoying the palpation and the next she stands up and moves away. Humans will do the same thing - we jump, shift, the muscle stiffens, etc. There’s all kinds of signs we, as Doctors of Chiropractic, are trained to see in how your body reacts.
After adjusting the tender spot/restricted joint, there’s often an immediate change in how the joint feels. It’s less tender and feels more free/open. Yarra got an adjustment and was super happy and moves better afterwards (stay tuned for the post-CMT video).
So if you have a tender spot, come into the office and let’s find out why, and let’s see what we can do to get rid of it.
