Here are many reasons why people waste time in relationships. They have fear around commitment, feel entitled to resources you provide, ego, entitlement, etc.

Parents can become cruel when they are no longer able to use their children for benefits, money, and favors. This is a transactional relationship.

No-contact is really a grieving process. When we don't have closure with our parent we feel guilty especially when they pass away.
