Fun Fact Friday: Did You Know there is a difference between skilled nursing and long-term care services?
Many people use the terms “skilled nursing” and “long-term care” interchangeably, but they are actually different types of services. Skilled nursing typically refers to short-term medical care and rehabilitation provided after a hospitalization, such as therapy, wound care, IV medications, or recovery following surgery or illness. The goal is often to help someone regain strength and safely return home or to their highest possible level of functioning. Long-term care, on the other hand, provides ongoing support for individuals who need assistance with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, mobility, medications, or memory support over an extended period of time. Both services are important but serve very different needs. LCSL provides both skilled nursing and long-term care services.
